Auto Updates Microsoft Security Essentials?

Just wondering if this "Microsoft Security Essentials" application updates automaticaly when using 3g net access which is not left online 24/7?
The 3rd party McAfee etc. do their Auto Updates whenever logging online.
Do these MSE Auto Updates operate like the 3rd party security applications?

From what I can see from MSE on my laptop it checks for updates before the scheduled scan, and I am assuming it also receives updates through WUS.

Tried this application and this an excellent product that will hold it's own with any other security application, for once an application that does not slow down the system.

You can download the updates via the MSE web site, sorta like Norton used to do.
