AutoPedigree used car nightmare!

OK, why not two years or three years or when ever a new shape of that model comes out?
The reason is that on their shoestring service budget and with the level of abuse these cars face they tend to become less profitable (require fixing) after 40,000km / 1 year. Book values are still very high then so they can sell it on and get a new car that can stand a year of abuse on virtually no service costs at all. That is why they do not keep them for longer and that is why buying a rental and thinking you got a good deal makes you dumber than a halfwit.

Oh God...now we also have to admit in public that good business sense makes no sense at all!

Go and take some pictures of a couple of VW's and clear your head...please!

I'd rather have a preowned rental than a pre owned anything else, they will have fixed the problems with the car, you know, those initial problems lots of cars have so that they can get a return on their investment.

Airlines use the same principle, keep their fleets as new as possible.

BOLLOCKS!
Well I guess if you enjoy your ex-rental VW then its all good hey? Plus we can safely assume based on the joy your ex-rental VAG gives you that rentals are perhaps even more sought after than new cars because they have been hand picked by clever people at rental agencies.

Roux...just read back through the responses and see how many people agree with you - are you into S&M??

Well I'm glad so many people think ex-rentals are great buys, that leaves more private cars for sensible folks. You know that the one thing that shortens any cars life the most is if it is revved to high while cold - and that is the one thing rentals have to put up with all the time while their engine blocks are still new. But hey, I guess the majority of people like them that way and a bit of smoke does add character.

Everytime I think of buying a car it's a process which I enjoy. Seems the sales people don't enjoy it with me either and funny enough more things are negotiable than cars! Which is crazy considering the money being spent.

What's also funny is watching them squirm to try get you to listen to the crap their Finance person has to offer you, i.e. best interest rates with different banks, extended motorite (read crap) warranties.

In the end of the day, it IS a lot of money to me!!! If I take a few months deciding, deal with it, I owe you NOTHING Mr Car Salesman. As for the dealers who tell me I HAVE to meet with their fianance person in order to receive an OTP or actually BUY a car, I DO & WILL walk out...

If anyone in the Car Industry would actually listen to what people want which is just generally good, honest service as well as living up to your word / contract you will get SOOOO much REPEAT business, well at least from me.

You will see that some of us in the industry can hear you and are trying to fight the swines who are giving us such a bad name...;)

Hear, hear: I cannot but agree with this statement!
