Interest in electric cars surges in South Africa as petrol price rockets

Data from South African vehicle classifieds website AutoTrader shows that potential car buyers are increasingly interested in buying second-hand electric vehicles (EVs).

That is despite the country's significant electricity challenges spurring fears about being unable to charge EVs during load-shedding.

I can only dream of the deal they were giving on the Nissan Leaf in the US. $15k price for a new model and then a $7.5k subsidy, so only $7,5k total. I think a deal like that would do really well here!

edit: nevermind. Subsidy still cool though.

I'm a very doubtful that Nissan USA offered a new Leaf for as low of 15k USD, I'm very aware of the 7,5k USD government tax credit.

They are a business after all & need to make some money on every vehicle sold.

Who wants to charge their car during loadshedding ? Just drive to another suburb and charge the damn thing.
