Avast is being investigated for allegedly selling user browsing data

Czech authorities have launched an investigation into the practices of anti-virus software company Avast.

In an official announcement from the Czech Office for Personal Data Protection, authorities said that Avast is being investigated over allegations of selling data on the browsing activities of its users through its Jumpshot division.

Hmm, I was going to remove their software from a client because of cost, now this has brought my little project forward...

"Avast acquired competitor AVG Technologies for $1.3 billion in July 2016. It also acquired Piriform, the UK based company behind apps such as CCLeaner, Recuva, and Speccy. " source - some more software to watch out for...
