Not reflecting on Box Office Mojo yet, but Avatar has been bested.

Excelsior! Avengers: Endgame Tops Avatar As Highest-Grossing Movie Of All Time
It's official! Cue "We Are The Champions" 'cause Marvel did it. This weekend, Avengers: Endgame is passing Avatar as the highest-grossing movie of all time, not adjusting for inflation.

The timing worked out nicely, since Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige got to make the big announcement Saturday during the Marvel panel at San Diego Comic-Con. On Sunday, Avengers: Endgame will make just enough to dethrone Avatar.

Avatar's worldwide total is said to be $2.7897 billion, which is actually more than the $2.7879 billion posted on Box Office Mojo. According to Deadline, that's because Disney/Fox added a small amount of reissue grosses from markets around the world over the years. Since Disney now has both movies under its umbrella, it may not care too much about who wins this battle.

As of Saturday, Endgame was still down $500,000 in worldwide ticket sales, but Avengers 4 will officially pass that within the hours of Sunday, July 21.

Kevin Feige addressed the milestone during Marvel's Hall H panel, which included a series of stunning announcements:

Thanks to you, Avengers: Endgame is the biggest film of all-time.

‘Avengers: Endgame’ Passes ‘Avatar’ to Become Biggest Movie in History

After “Avatar’s” impressive 10-year reign as box office champion, “Avengers: Endgame” has officially dethroned James Cameron’s sci-fi epic to become the biggest movie of all time.

On Saturday, Disney and Marvel’s blockbuster crossed $2.7892 billion at the global box office. Once weekend ticket sales are tallied, the tentpole will exceed the $500,000 needed to surpass “Avatar’s” $2.7897 billion benchmark.

“Avengers: Endgame” has amassed $853 million at the domestic box office, making it the second-highest grossing movie in North America behind “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” ($936 million). Internationally, it collected a mighty $1.9 billion, boasting especially strong performances in China ($629 million), the United Kingdom ($114 million), South Korea ($105 million), Brazil ($85 million) and Mexico ($77 million).

Disney, ever determined to reach ultimate box office glory, re-released “Avengers: Endgame” in theaters last month with additional footage in an effort to beat “Avatar.”

Since Disney closed its $71.3 billion acquisition of Fox, “Avatar” is now part of the Disney empire. That means the Buena Vista company is currently home to seven of the top 10 highest-grossing films of all time.

Marvel president Kevin Feige announced the benchmark during the studio’s Comic-Con presentation in San Diego on Saturday.

“A huge congratulations to the Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Studios teams, and thank you to the fans around the world who lifted ‘Avengers: Endgame’ to these historic heights,” Alan Horn, Disney co-chairman and chief creative officer, said in a statement. “Of course, even with the passage of a decade, the impact of James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ remains as powerful as ever, and the astonishing achievements of both of these films are ongoing proof of the power of movies to move people and bring them together in a shared experience. The talented filmmakers behind these worlds have much more in store, and we look forward to the future of both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Pandora.”

Adjusted for inflation, Gone with the Wind is by far the highest-grossing film of all time with $3.73bn.

Avatar is second with $3.27bn and Titanic third with $3.1bn.

Are they rebooting blade in the MCU? And fantastic 4? Assume they have both of those back?

I assume its a reboot of Blade. Maybe they will give Wesley a shameless cameo.

Yes Feigie did mention Fantastic 4 and mutants will be coming, but not in this phase

Incoming:
Avatar re-release with 15min of footage from new sequel.
Is this for real?
What are they hoping to achieve?
Is this an aim to take over the no. 1 spot again?
Hollywood playing games here

He's joking.

Disney merged with Fox this year which means they now own Avatar. Disney also owns the MCU. They won't care who is on top. Only James Cameron will.

If they didn't care they'd not have re-released it with the 10s of extra footage.

Fair enough, but I highly doubt they sign-off on an Avatar re-re-release. Unless they invoke their inner George Lucas.

Doubt he cares. Took a lead up of 22 movies to dethrone Avatar. Lol
