I need some advice and opinion regarding the polo vivo 1.4 hatch v aveo 1.6. I plan on getting a car as soon as next month and i'm caught between the two. My dad (who is old skool) is all for the Chevy claiming its a strong and powerful car. At the moment it has went down from 130k to 112k with EVERYTHING except radio. The polo starts @ 104k and of course has extras at an additional price. The air con goes for 8k which then puts me at the same price as the aveo BUT excluding abs, central locking etc...

I'm only 22, I'm a first time buyer. I don't know MUCH about cars but i know id like something convenient for me as a young woman as well as something good for my pocket. So kindly let me know which one you guys think will be a good option to go for?

Maybe also have a look at what you will be getting with the car, eg. Motor / service plan.

Why not go test drive both. Also one of the car dealers might sweeten the pot a bit for a sale.

Have a look here: http://www.vw.co.za/en/models/polo_vivo/trimlevel_overview.html - it also looks like the 2 door Vivo is 104k :(

Aveo 1.6 : http://www.chevrolet.co.za/vehicles/view_all_vehicles/cars/aveo_hatch/options_specs/trims.html

Why not have a look at the Ford Figo: http://www.ford.co.za/servlet/Satel...80071895&pagename=FMCSA/controller&site=FMCSA

1.25 Picanto :p
+1 Or the cheaper and better equipped 1.25 i10.

Both the Aveo and Vivo are old - very old. The new Aveo is days from release (called the Sonic) and the Vivo/Getz/Figo are also old generation cars.

Get yourself a top spec i10 for R109k and you will be safe and happy.

Nice the i10 is going for 99k, with PS / AC / Front electr windows etc etc. Very nice :)

Rather get the one going for R109k - it has ABS+EBD and a lot of other goodies. Its the best new car in this price range.

@ Devill

Just had a look at them ... i really must say that the Aveo seems like a bargain as it has abs, air con etc ...all for 112k!! My only problem is that when i visited the vw dealership, i was told that having to maintain an aveo would be costly. Lets say something goes wrong - im told that i might have to wait a long time for parts etc. Do you think it would be unfair to ask you IF YOU HAD TO MAKE A CHOICE BETWEEN THE TWO, WHAT WOULD YOU GO FOR??

Wait, so the guys at the VW dealership told you to not but the Aveo because of x, y and z? You do see what they are trying to do?

Let me put it this way, have you seen the amount of Aveos in rental fleets? There is probably and equal amount of Vivos and the the reason for that is both cars are cheap to keep on the road. It comes down firstly the car you desire and secondly the best bang for your buck, and usually that is not a VW.

Oh, and yes the price of the aveo is down due to the release of the new one coming out soon. But The 2011 model isnt so bad right?

You're right ... thank you so much! I guess what i have gathered here is that the is absolutely nothing wrong with a Chevy like the guys @ vw have been trying to tell me. And honestly it makes financial sense for me to go for the aveo. Its affordable AND has all the extras id have to pay for when getting a polo...

I would go for either the Hyundai i10 or the Ford Figo ;)

I agree, I would definitely take a top spec i10 of R109k before I take an Aveo.

Trouble is the OP is in Jo'burg - I'd feel a lot safer in a 1.6 than in a 1.2 at that altitude
Engine size has got nothing to do with it :

Aveo : 3 star

i10 : 4 star

I have an AVEO 1.6 2009 model - very nice cars, drove the newer models that where very plastiky inside and interior looked rather cheap.
Aprt from being underpowered I cant fault the car, services are +-R1800, my uncle now services the car for +-R900
