It was SAA/SAL Rietbok (a Vickers Viscount turboprop aircraft) until it crashed - now, apparently - according to Myles - it's been renamed to SAS Rietbok (SA Navy nomenclature) as it's 'in the water'...

Rereading the article I think what they mean is that the passenger was on the previous flight that the plane took, not the actual flight that crashed.

I think you are right about that. The plane crashed on the way to East London.
