The Mail & Guardian reported last week that the SFO believed Hlongwane -- who served as special adviser to former defence minister Joe Modise - received "commission" payments totalling at least R280-million. Hlongwane has consistently failed to return M&G calls requesting comment.
Bastid.
Question:
If your boss organised you a deal where you earned unrecorded "commission", would you turn the deal down?
And ... once you've accepted the first "commission", suddenly you can be blackmailed into accepting more and more and more.
At what point would you come clean?
But - this is how they work, you get roped in, and it becomes impossible to get out.
This is why the corruption must be stopped at the very first cent.
These big cases help to highlight the problem, but they will never solve the problem.
