Hi all
Just starting on this LTE stuff. Have a B525 that i have tried all over the house and best so far is a shelf in the lounge giving the results below. Any comment on what is good/bad will be appreciated.
I have no idea where any towers are and considering an antenna in the roof (tiles above). Either XPOL-1 or XPOL-6
Am I on the right track?
Tks, Brian

Hi Brian
Im not expert, but from what i can tell.... Maybe someone with better knowledge can answer you.
Otherwise:
Your signal stats look good/ok. If you add a antenna X-pol6 or Xpol2 it will make a big difference to improve your signal quality.

Just some info from Axxess about their Telkom LTE service.
I sent them a email with questions, and i received the following reply. :)

"Please be advsied, our Telkom sim cards work with APN and the sim cards are running on the thelkom servers.
Our lte packages are all capped, meaning there is no shaping or throttling applicable.
Our telkom sim cards do roam on the vodacom network automatically, but only on covered areas."

Is there any way of getting more info on the connected tower from the B525. Like which bands are connected, is it a Telkom or Vodacom tower etc..

Signal is not bad for internal router only. Using an antenna would probably boos the signal a bit but not sure if it would really improve speeds.

These deals are no available while roaming on Vodacom despite what Axxess is claiming. Once you roam on Vodacom your network name will change to TelkomSA -R

Those big rectangular antennas which I believe are identifiable as Telkom. All have multiple cables in at the bottom so obviously many internal antennas. Does anyone know the radiation patterns or will this vary.

did you cancel because of the speed ?

its very weird, im on 110GB my speeds are always between 4mbp to 11mbps, i have never seein anything above untill 23:00 where speeds go up to 30mbps, BUT! I stream everything in HD without issues, wether im on 4mbps or 11mbps im always on full hd on netflix, youtube and even DSTV now. i have only experienced issues today when DSTV now buffered when i was watching liverpool and spurs but i reloaded the page and went back to full HD.

i dont even bother with speed testing anymore because i know i never go above 11mbps during speak hours. but im happy overall im even upgrading to 220GB

Did you try using different bands? What router are you using?

cancelled because of speed, really pissed off i could not watch Liverpool game ( dstv now ) properly because of the buffering ( even on 560 res ), when on rain no problem speed is around 45. reload reboot didn't help. i have used vodacom to stream football during my rain " blackout " with no problems. I have an external aerial with B315s-936 router
speed test done now on rain

I'll be getting my Telkom sim sometime next month and I'll be using an old Huawei B593s Router which they assured me would work fine.

Will post some speedtest results here when I get it. :)

Due to all ADSL cancellations and roaming, Telkom LTE is going to the dogs.
Last night I tried to stream the F1 GP on DSTV Now using Telkom's 2300 Mhz, forget it, speeds were below 2 Mbps, was shocking the way it buffered all the time.
Switched over to 1800 Mhz, a little better but still bad, then switched to 2100 Mhz and that was excellent.
Speed test during the race was 27 Mbps on 2100 mhz.

That is actually decent speeds for 2100MHz. Have you tried aggregating b1 and b3. Should be 27MBps + whatever you get on band 3.

Very happy with mine. Not sure if people are using speed tests as a benchmark, it's not really true to indicating performance.

I'm in menlo park and I hit 100mbits but mostly it's 20ish. Streams 4k without a hitch, and for the one dude above, DSTV now is not a benchmark, it sucks even on 100mbits because THEIR servers can't handle the demand.

So far I am very pleased.

Although, I can't get loopback/haripinning working in the B618 router, can anyone help?

During the day I switch to 2300+1800 which as I said in my pm is a hell of a lot better than most and then I get around 30 Mbps down and 18 Mbps up as the 2100 mhz only works well during evening peak hours.
Also the 2100 is on another tower 2 km away and I swing the antenna around.
From about 2 am to 5 am I switch to 2300 mhz and get around 45 Mbps which is ok for downloading stuff.
I don't think our tower here does aggregating.

To that "one dude's" defence, I was able to stream the F1 over VDSL in 1080p without any problems, so it probably wasn't a DSTV issue in his case.

Why? I've seen first hand how my phone on LTE can't streat in DSTV now while my bedroom TV does it in 720p on 4mbits at the same time.

Interesting. Just imagine if Telklm set up 4 carrier aggregation. All their LTE bands aggregated. Would be so awesome.

@Totempole, Normally I do not have a problem with DSTV Now.
It could also be because the F1 GP is normally on a Sunday afternoon, but this was during peak time at 9pm.
Next Sunday its again at 9pm and I will check again.
But yes I do believe DSTV Now is by no means a yard stick :)
