Well, my motherboard is an ESC elite pro via kt bla bla and my screencard is a Radeon x800xt platinum edition.

the reason why I am asking is because i wanted to play the new hitman that came out but even when all my graphics processes are set to low it still lags heavy and i have a AMD 64 4000+ cpu.

If I were you I would definitely change the mobo and get new RAM, you can still live with the cpu and even the graphics card. ECS is total crap and scum of the earth, I had a k7vza for 3 years (total killover). I would say look at the gigabyte nforce 4 range and get one of those. Is your graphics card AGP or PCIE? If it's agp you'd better upgrade to PCIE and get a simple 6800GS :)

Also I don't know what RAM the ECS board supports, is it DDR?

yeah, nevermind primitive, ECS is crap. Check out the gigabyte mobo's, I'm not a huge Asus fan(I don't like their support). All you need to do is buy another 1GB Corsair (dual channel it in the new mobo) and add two heatspreaders just for the fun of it. If you've got the money you can buy one of the top range Nvdia graphics cards. You don't need a mobo with SLI either, one PCIE slot is fine :)

Sorry, just to clarify: you have an AMD64 4000+, but are using an AGP card?

If you wish to upgrade right now, in order to use a socket-939 AMD64 CPU, I'd suggest a non-SLI Nforce4 Ultra board (like the Asus A8N-e, or an equivalent) along with 2x1Gb DDR400.

If you have money just burning a hole in your pocket, then consider SLI and go for 2x7900GT's.

My personal choice would be: sell your current motherboard, RAM and gfx as well as the 4000+. Then get a non-SLI NF4 Ultra board, an X2 4400+, 2x1Gb DDR400 and a single 7900GT. Oh, and ensure that you have a decent PSU of at least 400W (Antec or Enermax),

It would be extremely hard for me to disagree with flarkit (I guess I'm budget concious, although you don't have one :) ) Nvidia is the way to go IMO

It's not the case of is it necessary, it's just fun, but while we're at it, chuck 939 and go AM2 :) I'm not sure the whole story, spoke to a friend this weekend and he says the only difference between 939 and AM2 is the motherboard layout, and it performs better. He works at a pc shop as a technician and says AM2 is available. So get a X2(AM2) :)

AM2 is the new dual-core 64-bit line from AMD. However, the new Intel Conroe dual-cores are proving to be better value (and I'm a strong AMD supporter).

Aspersie, if you're on a budget (say, less than R7,000), then I'd stick to the 4000+. It's the best of the standard single-core AMD's. If you're a serious overclocker, you could look for an Opteron CPU and go crazy. Otherwise, go with the 4000+ for now. the top gfx cards are the 7950GX from NV and the ATI X1900XTX, but that's ridiculously expensive. I honestly doubt that people can see any difference in actual gaming, from a good mid-range card. In the R2,500 - R3,500 range I vote for the 7900GT (although there are some factory overclocked models which weren't stable). Just use that Antec PSU, together with your 4000+ and 2Gb of branded DDR400 (Kingmax, Kingston, Corsair, but I avoid Legend or JetRam) and you'll be smiling.

On a tighter budget, the 7600GT is good value at about R2,000.

On the dual-core front, the current X2 4400+ is slightly pricey at almost R4,000 but it is a dream for doing several things simultaneously.

For a standard gaming PC, able to play anything on the market including F.E.A.R, Oblivion and BF2 (not simultaneously!) at 1600x1200 4xAA/4xAF, the 4000+, 2Gb DDR400 and a 7900GT will be fine.

But that's just my 2c

Google for "ATI pci review" or "nvidia pci review" or even "pci graphics review test"
:D
