Looking for suggestions, comments anything regarding car seats for the little ones :)
I have a suspicion that there is a lot of preying on the fear of soon to be parents when you start looking at these things. Is there anything specific I should look for, brands to avoid, etc?

Avoid the Stokke stroller which goes with the Stokke car seat.

In addition of being one of the most expensive, you have to be an engineer to make it work, it's heavy and takes too much space.

We got a Chico travel system, was about R1800, pram and carseat. It was far better than the more expensive ones, stronger materials , more stable. Higher cost not always best.

I would say buy the best one you can afford. There are a whole range of them each with special features. I would say look for ones that have been crash tested or have a reputable name/have been doing child seats for a long time. You may also want to look at a car specific brand if you will only be using it in one car.

Did quite a bit of homework before we bought ours for little addition. Basically went for best we could afford.
Besafe (also makes the Stokke unit as a rebrand)
and Recaro

Settled on Recaro due to price and reputation (race car seats etc) and we bought the isofix base so that seat clips in and out without having to mess with seatbelt every time

buy second hand, you can save thousands....

we got a pram and car seat set that was 1 year old for R1500, normally retails brand new at R4600.

I would not buy a second hand helmet, therefore I will not buy a second hand car seat (unless I was 100% sure of the history of it)

Any brand that displays the EU safety standard label will be good. They have weight ranges, but the size of the seats does differ, so best to try the child in each one to see which are a good fit. If you're going to be moving it between vehicles check how easy it is to install and remove. A lot of them, ISOFIX as well, can be difficult. We've opted to get two after getting tired of moving the seats between cars.

They are not the same thing at all. There are good, valid reasons for not buying a used helmet or using someone else's helmet.

So you have no problem buying a car seat that has been in an accident?
