Early 2015, all my connectivity problems went away when I bought a laptop which has a sim-card slot. Today I tried to swap the sim card that was inside my laptop with another sim, but I ended up ruining the sim-slot. Now I tried using my phone as a wi-fi hotspot, but it seems to be consuming a lot more data when connected in this way. I don't know why it consumes data so fast, my guess is that windows automatically updates itself when connected through wi-fi. I'm thinking of getting a wifi modem, but my concern is data usage. Can someone offer an advice please? Today is officially the worst day of my life, coz I'm about to use a stupid dongle

In the interim, set your connection on W10 as metered.

Instead of buying another dongle, why not have the 3G module on the laptop repaired/replaced?
