Back to square 1...poor signal, pathetic data throughput

Having struggled with MTN (Midrand area) for a long time over data throughput (like most people here), about 5 months ago I finally got them to put in a range extender poynting aerial. Signal improved from -83mdB to about -63mdB. Yay. Speed was ok outside of 6-9pm.

Now I'm back to square one...actually worse off in fact...for about the last 6 weeks, it's as if the tower has just vanished. Plug in the range extender and your signal drops. Even before the extender it used to have a cyan light (3G)...now always green (EDGE) with absolutely pitiful throughput...I mean 40 minutes to add a beneficiary and pay someone on internet banking is just BS. (and this is the good end of the performance band...). Without the extender is still much worse than ever was - just poor quality edge. In some ways data transmission in S.A. seems to have gone backwards - At least a 56kbps modem used to give you some data throughput :)

E-mails to coverage just gets you the automated response. Will now resort to contacts...

In general, we are treated like garbage and it's just 'take what you get (or don't..) and like it'. The sad part is it is not only MTN - the coverage seems to go in cycles, with one provider being good in an area and 9 months later they are ***, with the other better. Thank God we have split the contracts, so at least we can browse on the IPAD thru Vodacom. Just think - some people rely on these connections for their home business.... quick way to kill a business...

I'm not even angry, more like resigned to the fact that this is just how it is...
