Best backup and disaster recovery for South African businesses

South African companies should have robust backup and disaster recovery systems to protect their critical data and that of their customers.

Several factors, including power outages, hardware failures, and cyber attacks, can lead to data being lost, making it essential for South African businesses to have some form of redundancy from which they can recover.

Why no mention of AWS? They have a great backup product not to mention Elastic DR...

Veeam is conspicuous by its absence.

So one thing to consider about Ransomeware and backup/DR is that by the time the ransomeware attack is launched, the cybercriminals have probably been inside your environment for some time. You can't just fail-over or restore to a compromised environment unless you want to be hit again next week. That's not even counting if they manage to go after your backup and DR.

Scary stuff.

The rate that ransomware encrypts files is scary. If you need time to manually react it's too late. If you replicate data to the DR site then you are screwed.

The fastest form of ransomware is LockBit, which took a median time of just 5 minutes and 50 seconds to encrypt 100,000 files.
