I have tried. I have failed. Many many times.

What is the easiest way to backup all information or selected folders on a non-rooted Android Device to a PC via USB (MTP).
This has always been an issue for me with Android. If possible I do not wan't to buy any software.
Wifi is too damn slow to backup 30GB of data/photos/media etc.

AlwaySync doesn't see the MTP portable devices.
Syncback not working.
Copy/Past large files ends up with a lost in connection.
Using Wifi to backup files also ends up with issues.

Maybe the fault here is the user, but why is it such a mission?

Device: Xiaomi Note 2, LG G4, Xiaomi Note 4X. Android 6.0 and higher.

Out of curiosity, what do you backup?

Google Photo's backs up all my photos.
WhatsApp is backed up on the cloud.
Google backs up all my settings etc.

It is allot of photos/videos/downloaded/recordings etc.

This is helpful if you have done it overtime and you have ADSL/Data to do it. It won't be possible for me to backup 30GB of data to the cloud.

I still don't know why it is such an issue to backup and Android device via USB? This is something I've always struggled with.

Fair enough.

Most manufactures these days supply their own syncing software. Try it, with the original cable, plugged into the back of the PC. Use a USB 2.0 port. In your phone settings, set your phone to stay awake - to not "time out".

Also, Install Teracopy. Lastly, I would try another PC.

Just clarify, you are talking about copy (ctr+c) and paste (ctr+v)?

That's why I like to root my phone. Then I set up Titanium to automatically do backups. Backs up all apps and data.

It seems like this might be the best solution.

I have had this issue since My first Samsung S2,LG G2. LG G3. LG G4. Redmi Note 2. Redmi Note 4X. How something so simple can't be solved I don't know.

Set the apps to save to SD card in the future. To make regular backups a simple robocopy script will copy all the data from the SD card to the pc via a usb cable directly from the phone or by putting the SD card into a card reader. Robocopy can be set to only copy what has changed, so after the first backup it should take a very short time.

Thanks Synergy, I've tried all that. On my old PC, new PC, and Notebook. LG Software gives me issues and say they don't like Marshmallows. Just install Xiaomi Suite. Issues but looks like I am not the only one and Xiaomi doesn't fix it.

Have't tried Teracopy. Will look at it.

Airdroid ftw. Haven't mucked about with cables in ages.
I've tried Airdroid but is a pain in the backside with big files and doesn't copy all files, loose connection. Looking at 30GB+.

I've read somewhere that this has always been an issue with Android.

See good reviews for Titanium and rooting. Once I've got everything backed up I think I'm gonna go try that for the G4 and I will start setting up my personal devices from now on to sync to Drive and then Sync to PC. The other members in the family, especially the older folk this won't work though.

Good solution except its not secure. Someone grabs phone and remove SD card and they have all my information. I had an encrypted SD card before, 30+GB, will never do it again. Encrypted also can't be used without connecting via phone. Which puts me back at step 1.

I need to learn to keep regular backups so that I don't copy massive amounts of data at a time. My experience with Android doesn't like it.

Sync your files on the selected directories the first time manually using Windows Explorer via usb.

For subsequent syncs, use GoodSync Server. It works VERY well.

This exactly what I try to achieve. Although SyncBack, Airdroid, AlwaySync, LG & Xiaomi Soft wasn't successful. When Eskom switch the electricity back on I will try GoodSync..... Dammit, now where did I put the candles....

On Miui you need to make it a protected app otherwise it will time out etc or something is wrong with your Wifi. I copy mp3, flac files and movies over wifi no problem.

Smaller files are fine. Bigger files are the issue. I will check again thanks. Wifi is also slow. USB will be faster.

I've installed and used GoodSync to sync via USB and it worked very well. I'm thinking of buying it and use it for my other stuff also, replacing AlwaySync.

GoodSync Server doesn't seem to work as I get an error. My phone is not rooted so not sure if that is the issue. But USB works perfect.

I did the initial WiFi setup using the free GoodSync Server app on my android devices.

Check in GoodSync Explorer if you can see the WiFi connection. You will first need to run File/GoodSync Connect Setup once, from the Explorer

PS: Root is not required

I didn't see GS Explorer. Thanks! Got it connected now but it only picks up the Internal Storage, doesn't see the removable SD card. Is this maybe an Android issue?
