I've been lucky up to now, with my previous car I had lots of marks. My current car has none. If I get one this weekend I will be blaming you by the way. Last year I said I haven't received a speeding fine in close to 3 years, then I received three in succession.

Its called tempting fate .....

Aye. A healthy smattering of sarcasm  and all passing by also wanted to figure out how, which lead to immense traffic snarl.

easy. The car hit the robot pole, rode up the pole until the pole collapsed dumping the car on top of the concrete bin. The why is more difficult to postulate about. Could be anything from sneezing to texting to avoiding a pedestrian in the road or some or other reason.

Looking for a photo that should be around from years back where a car ended up vertical in Potgieter Street in PTA after driving up a stay wire for a pole and then tottering back on to its rear end absolutely vertical. The pole and the stay wire remained intact.

Here is the problem with these small cars coupled with bucket seats and short people who drive by peeping through the steering wheel.
They have no idea where the front of their car is. The fancy term is "Spatial awareness".

Next time you get into one these cars ( typically a hire car) try an experiment for yourself and see where you stop based on your perception of where the front of the car is. Get out and then measure how far you are from the curve. You may be quite surprised as to the outcome.

There are also people that have the driver's seat in a reclined position as if they believe they are in bed and are prepared to fall asleep at any time, this position means they cannot possibly see over the steering wheel.

Spatial awareness is a developed trait.

If you grew up riding in the family car/practising your epee lunges/having at least one eye to the telescope every night, you will probably have great depth perception.

If, on the other hand, you have only ever ridden in public transport/breathed fumes from burning tyres, you will most likely have poor depth perception.

I can tell you now, South Africans of all denominations drives badly, sometime very badly. Whether they are blue, purple or yellow. Doesn't matter what kind of car, sometimes cheap, sometimes expensive. Mostly taxis.

Ironically, at the moment the opinion is that the most "spatially aware" drivers on our roads (as a group) are the much maligned "taxi drivers".

Got this from Roadhogs. The text said "Old man takes two mommy parking spots to make a point"

Apparently at the Waterfront.

Actually, I doubt it.
They may be more inclined to take huge risks, but their accident rate alone tends to lend credence to the idea that they're just not all that.

Would have parked my big bakkie (complete with babyseat and actual baby usually travelling in it) in front of that car... "to make a point".. then taken an uber home.
