Is it illegal to park facing oncoming traffic?

JPSA: Yes it is illegal. The law prohibits it and I would hazard a guess that the reason for this has something to do with the fact that we drive on the left of the roadway and therefore, pulling off from such a parking would cause the driver to drive facing oncoming traffic.

Only ever parking ticket I've received in SA was for this very offense. I was offloading truck batteries from my pickup's loadbed and had it parked with the loadbed closest to the shop entrance. Cop ticketed me while I was busy offloading - and rightly so.

The risk with this type of parking is crossing traffic with obstructed view as you have to cross 2 lanes. It's not illegal here in Norway but it should be, because idiots.

Insurance companies also enjoy declining claims from accidents that happen when parked facing the oncoming traffic.

Yowza, knowledge is power. Insurance companies would love to use a technical point to avoid rendering you the service that you generously paid them for.

People park very badly there, the one bay next to it with the yellow cross is where I spotted that Polo the other time.

And that parking are so big it's almost more effort to park like that rather than parking properly.
