Bad pixel on a CRT? Surely not.

I have a new (3 months old) Phillips 19" crt. A week ago I realized there is a little black dot on the screen. Stays as the same position no matter what resolution I use. Cleaned the screen a couple of times, but no luck.

Can a CRT have bad pixel's? (or whatever equivalent they use). Anyway to test? Or do I just send it back.

You have cells at the back of a CRT screen, those produce the colours. If one of those dies you would have a black dot on the screen. Take it back and they should just give you a new one.

The only CRT's I will buy these days are Samsungs, the rest just dont have quality control anymore it seems.

Could it not be a tiny piece of phosphor that has come loose, or perhaps a piece of phoshpor that has come loose preventing the ray from lighting that spot on the screen. Happened with my 19" CTX after some rough handling during transportation.

GPS What model Philips 19" ? I've baught 2x109b6 models - i'm not impressed at all. lovely looking, but the preformance is C R A P. one monitor is out of focus in the corners, the other monitor seems to be working great, but one of the buttons appears to be damaged - slightly in, not standing out. Drive Control won't replace them, they want to send them for repairs - which i moaned and said that if would no doubt return and the colour and contrast will no longer match and i would be without monitors for a given period. on the Default settings of the monitors - they are So bright that everything on both are out of focus - surely they should look stunning on default!!!! - doubt i'd ever buy Philips again!.

have a look at the menus settings for an item called "landing"
this controls how the 3 guns focus to create a dot, especially in the corners.
Every monitor I have ever had needed the landing set (if possible via the OSD) or it just needed it set and I couldnt do it via the menu so gave up:)

if youd ownload the nokia monitor test software (google etc) then you can use that to set up the crt properly.

nope. no such thing. i know the alternative - the LOPT has a brightness control and H-Focus & V-Focus - but this even at optimal didnt make it as clear as the other monitor.

Labanimal, it's a 109b6 as well! Funny you mention the corners, the 2 righthand corners are kinda fussy compared to the rest of the display.

Called the shop this morning, told me to bring it back so they can have a look. Bought the thing while on holiday in the Cape, so that will have to wait till I get down there again.

GPS - and i take it you had to turn the monitor down because Default is SO bright that it hurts your eyes and is more out of focus at that setting ? The Lightframe mode also distorts the picture quality - nothing fancy about it except an overbright picture - yes ?

Lightframe never made any sense to me. Piece of crap, should not be a feature.

Currently have the brightness set at 38, contrast at 99.
