Bad S/N ratio on Adsl line - Telkom Technician to come out?

Hi

About a week back the S/N on my adsl line went tfrom good (37 downstream) to bad (7 downstream). The line still syncs at 20meg, but the speed I am getting currently is very low - basically it is as if I am on a 2meg dsl line, and of course very irratic at that. Speedtest gives about an average of 2 Mbps download speed.

Question I have is, must I ask Telkom to send out a technician so that he can see if the problem is at my home/exchnage box etc?

So far, all thay have done is call to tell me from their side the line syncs at 20meg and they can see no fault on the line

ISP?

Have to tested with an account from a different isp?

If you lift up the phone receiver and dial '0' can you hear noise on the line?

Post a screenshot of your router stats here.

Hi

ISP is Vox Telecom. Phoned them the first time I noticed the speed dropped. They did some tests from their side, stated that they could see the line was faulty, i.e. Telkom problem.

From the phone, dialing and speaking to someone the line has a cracking sound to it.

Here is the router stats from today.

Log a voice line fault for a noisy line, tell them it crackles, don't mention adsl/internet as they are gonna go off on a tangent. Let them fix the noise on the voice line and the rest should come right as well. Some guys are lazy, don't let them clear the fault, ask them to move you to a spare pair on the cable if it's a cable issue.

Did you check your filter & indoor wiring?

Thanks Ponder.

I did a check on the cabling on my side, but couldn't see anything wrong.

Went to the Telkom shop, and this time they typed an email to the techs with their manager CCed about the problem. In the email it was specifically stated that the noise on the line is bad etc, also gave the SNR ratios my router reproted. Requested that a technicain must come out and notify me so that he can have access to the house.

We had a bad storm on the 22nd (high wind velocities - did some damage to roofs etc), and on the 23rd my problams started, so I suspect outside somewhere the line was damaged.

So for now, waiting for them to come out hopefully this week.

Just an update, but thanks to TelkomZA for helping me out. Once he/she/it got involved, problem got solved! :)
