So my Ford Bantam 1.3i (2007 Model) that is not about 18 months old. Recently had its 30 000KM Service, front brakes replaced etc.

On Saturday I discovered that my hooter/horn no longer works at all:confused:

Today I checked the fuse and it seems fine. Another indication of this is that the hazard lights and horn run on the same fuse. The hazards work fine.

Suggestions? Help? Ideas?

Check if the hooter is physically present.

Somebody might've nicked it.

Or the wiring's loose.

Yeah - they might have knocked loose a wire during the service.

Dumb question here but where exactly is the hooter on a Bantam? Also where on earth would the wires be?

They might have tried to steel it ?

They clip the hooter wires as it's connected to the alarm. Might want to check the hooter wires ;)

With some cars it is near the left-hand flasher unit (just behind it). On others it is in front of the radiator, but behind the grille. This is not a fixed position, and car manufacturers delight in putting some stuff into the least accessible locations just to spite their customers.

You'll have to open your bonnet and take a look around to see if you can see it. If you're unsure on what to look for, ask somebody who'll know.

Will have a look with a friend of mine who is excellent with cars. I don't like driving 90KM a day without a hooter, especially with idiots not checking their blind spots when turning.

So Ford quoted me R450 to fix the hooter. Today my friend and I went to a junkyard and got a replacement hooter for R29.

My friend put it in for me.

So I effectively saved 1550% by sorting it out myself

Hooter itself blew:confused:

The physical hooter only has a working lifetime of, if I recall, somewhere around 5 to 10 minutes... If you're hooter-happy (and not in the Teazers-sense) it's going to catch up with you. ;)

Why does taxi's hooters last that long?

Is it discrimination in that we get inferior piddly hooters while they get the cream of the crop?

:D

I will one day follow the example set by my uncle. His car's hooter popped, and he summarily replaced it with two chromed trumpet hooters off a Peterbilt-truck, kinda like this one:
