Watch out, the myBB old age police are going to challenge this report because it is not officially supported by some or other obscure internet searchable reference.

Slightly clickbait header. SAB doesn't have 400 million bottles that may need to be destroyed, it has 130 million liters in its tanks which can be bottled into 400 million beers. Basically, the journos took the 130 million liters and did a quick calculation that gave 400 million then they write false headline based on this crazy maths.
Nothing really false or crazy about it.

It's the accumulated loss of 400 million bottles of beer worth of product, people can't easily visualize 130 million liters but it's a lot easier to appreciate the loss when the story is told in terms of units with which everyone is familiar.

End of the day there are 400 millions bottles worth of beer that could have been filled with product that is now going to waste....

Our government is literally Satan.
I'm only going to oppose that statement because even in the Bible, Satan wasn't the guy doing all the killing (something we still regard as a bad thing).
He had a murder tally of around 10, whereas Yahweh the storm God ran at just over 2 million.
Just jumping to the defence of a fictitious deity who can't put forward his case.
Not to detract from the importance of the thread and to support what most people are saying, yes the goobermint is a ****ing disaster.
But, to compare them to Satan (an INTELLIGENT albeit, fictitious being) just isn't on. ;)

I have 5 smokes left

They will last me until tomorrow, maybe.

I will not be buying another pack until the prices are back to normal. So I will be an irritating git until further notice
Good luck. I will not be paying cocaine prices for cigarettes either, in fact I think cocaine is cheaper.

Actually Satan isn't the bad guy, much like Hades. Someone has to rule the underworld.

The average South African has trouble assimilating and processing anything over 1000, so it's pretty much a case of they should rather say they have to dump a LOT of beer.
If the goobermint can fool people with R350 a month, then I may have erred somewhat in my estimation that the average SAfrican is able to count to 1000...

Using a unit cost of R12 per beer and 400 million potential bottles, I get 4,8 billion rand in sales. Not sure what the tax is on that, but that is money lost. Are the ANC gravediggers?

Yeah, because what's more important, the destruction of the bottle or the beer inside it...?

Pedants everywhere... :X3:
Language matters.

Would you help your uncle jack-off a horse? Or would you help your uncle Jack off a horse?

The point of the story is that a lot of viable product might have to be destroyed due to the alcohol ban...

Pointing out incorrect language and misuse of English is not in any way a distraction from the thrust of the story, is it?

Breaking it down into numbers the public can understand is always useful...

I think even 400 million bottles is a number most people can't get their head around other than it being a fsckload....

Assuming an SAB delivery truck can hold 1000 cases of beer and a case equates to 24 bottles. Each truck can therefore hold 24000 bottles.
(If anyone knows how many cases one of those SAB Superlinks can actually carry, then feel free to update the calcs)

That means the 400m bottles would fill 16500 delivery trucks. That is a more understandable number for many people to get their heads around.
A different calc would be those tanker trucks. Assuming they can hold around 40000l (based off the Petrol tanker specs so might be off), it would be around 3400 Tanker truck loads worth of beer.

The most positive spin I can think of re BAT is they will allow cigarette sales from level 3 which will hopefully come into force at the end of next week.
Yea i doubt level 3 will happen.
They lot of them will see the huge jump in the average infections per day.
