Dlamini-Zuma contends that Fita’s cigarette ban court case, which is one of at four potential legal challenges to the lawfulness of the NCCC and its decisions, is “not urgent” and should only be heard in the week of June 9 — a possible indication that the state’s level 4 lockdown will remain in place for at least another month.
 That there, folks, sends shivers down my spine.

That means that she has now become judge, jury and executioner - since when can she decide on whether judicial matters are urgent or not?

If the judge is even vaguely independent, expect some very stern words dished out to Mama NDZ for assuming to speak on the courts behalf in regards to the urgency or not.

But so far, the government haven't provided even a stitch of anything concrete to justify the ban or the uturn on the ban... the court case looks likely to be a very difficult one for them to walk away from looking good or competent..

I do hope so, but why did BAT really drop it's case then?

They are engaging with government, and I think there is some agreement on a drop in lockdown etc etc... FITA were burnt by that once so they're not biting.

The differentiator here is the court, and the fact that it sets a legal precedent.

If the courts find this regulation was irrational then it makes the road to do that with others easier.
the courts found the following irrational, it has yet to change any behaviour in the guavamint:
- not prosecuting JZ's arms deal case
- sweeping JZ's Nkandla scandal under the rug
- for the house speaker to conclude she does not have the mandate to hold a secret ballot impeachment vote
- multiple public protector cases under the new well worn Zupta mattress' reign

Do any of those court cases provide a basis to challenge the regulations under the DMA and the NCCC?

Well, any law or regulation that does not unjustifiably infringe on rights found in other laws and the constitution is rational.

Its typical that I ran out of nic about 2 weeks ago, I have tons of everything else. At least I managed to make a 500ml of my favourite juice so hopefully that lasts a while.

On the subject of alcohol, Cele said the police had learnt a number of things during the lockdown, none more relevant than the contribution that alcohol plays in many crimes.
He remained adamant that the ban on alcohol sales, coupled with increased police visibility, had drastically reduced violent crime.
Part of the story, but far from the whole story!
The fact that no pubs/clubs/taverns/etc are open at all, that people are not allowed to go out or socialize seems to be completely overlooked.

Those small details do not matter to tea-totaller dickwad Don knobjockey...

He knows better than the rest of us, and history as well, and we can expect some type of Prohibition style bollocks for awhile if you ask me.

Booze and Ciggy companies should just all file 189's with the intent to slash 60% of their workforce. Cut their losses.
Let the unions argue the case with the government, they don't listen to mere mortals unless you are part of the cabal.
