Researchers cant even finger their mothers in law, let alone the impact of alcohol.

Unfortunately one of the experts who is widely quoted in the media is Dr. Charles Parry, the head of the Medical Research Council. He is a known anti-alcohol crusader yet that is never mentioned and really does influence the positions he takes. For example, he supports the ban because it reduced the number of car accidents (spurious correlation).

Why not rather ban cars, that will reduce car accidents by 100%

Did they also take into account that the first 5 or 10 days people still had alcohol?

And this article makes me vomit - like from a hangover:

If it is such a problem for the poor population to drink responsibly, then sell only to those you drink responsibly!
And if we had been told the day before the lockdown that no alcohol will be sold, I would have bought 1.000 bottles of wine...

Pity that hardly any "poor" people post here. I really would like to hear their opinion.

I just returned from my daily shopping run and I can confidentatily say the lockdown regulations are a farce.

For the right price I would be able to buy anything from cigarettes and alcohol to open toe sandals and t-shirts.

All within a 2 km radius of the local police station.

But then again the bar isn't set very high for police officers.

Their political head used to be their top officer until he was fired for corruption by Jacob Zuma.

There would be some irony in that if it wasn't so damn dangerous.

The tobacco they want to force down our throats comes from the land taken from us by force. We must now smoke it forcefully even if it means we die.
WTF is this crack pot on about? Who is forcing people to smoke? o_O

Don't pay attention to this ANC fanboy. the spewed that piece.

The Disaster Management Act has been on our statute books for 17 years.

It is one of the pieces of legislation passed by our democratic government to give effect to the permissible encroachments on our rights, authorised by the Constitution.

Those questioning government’s motives for restrictions on the sale of tobacco and alcohol have challenged it.

It never mattered to them that a disaster may occur and necessitate the activation of the Act.

What an absolute load of vomit!
This act was arguably and rightly put in place to cover for things like say runaway fires, floods, earthquakes heaven forbid, in a concentrated area or region. Not nationwide stripping everyone and sundry of their civil rights, just because.
So I cant smoke drink or by plakkies cause some folks don't know how to behave?

"We never had discussions on banning alcohol and cigarettes. No single scientist would have supported the cigarette ban. We don't know who's advising government. This whole thing has been politicised...it's either you are for or against government."

Simple answer, no one, just their own personal views being forced on everyone

Just how do you determine who drinks responsibly.

Is it the poor who buys 2 x 5l papsakke to take home or the guys / girls having a couple after work and then drive home while over the limit.

And who determines this. The bottle store owner or shebeen owner who's lively hood depends on selling alcohol.

And poor people don't post here because reading opinions on mybb isn't a priority or even a consideration for them.

I could reason buying a 1.000 bottles of wine would be irresponsible and refuse to sell them to you.

Just because the regime makes arbitrary decisions based on irrational thought processes and personal preferences doesn't mean we have to.

Probably just another Zuma supporter hoping that if he sniffs her cooch and praise all she and her minions do, he might get into the big boys club or at least some dodgy overpriced tender...

Day 3 of giving up smoking. Yes the govament finally did it, they got me to stop smoking. Sold my last carton of smokes on Friday to a friend that was struggling to source some. Don't think I'll go back to smoking either, well If this works out as I kinda like this vape thing ;)
