forcing heavy smokers to quit "cold turkey" can cause depression, anxiety, short term eating disorders, concentration problems, irritability, aggression and other forms of emotional instability.
The CAMH did a in-depht study on this in 2011
On its own, the side effects of nicotine withdrawal can easily be managed with the following coping mechanisms:
1) Join a support group (quitting can be traumatic for some ... mostly for the people close to you due to your emotional instability)
2) Walking, Running or some form of outdoor activity
3) Spending time with friends and family
3) Eating sweets, jelly beans or more food... the cravings can be hectic.
But couple this with the lock-down regulations, confinement, restriction of movement, abuse of power by law enforcement, partial or full loss of income, alcohol withdrawals, kids acting up and all the resulting fear, anger, anxiety and irritation towards some of the officials' blatant disregard of the rules with little or no consequences resulting from this... then forcing people to stop alcohol and tobacco use cold turkey is down right irresponsible.
Women and Child abuse goes up... people start breaking the law to buy bootleg smokes or produce unsafe beverages at home ... all the whilst those tasked to enforce the ban sells the confiscated goods at ridiculous prices.
This ban increased violence in homes, theft(those who cannot afford the hiked prices will steal to afford it). approx 7 million smokers instantly became criminals, children in once safe environments get scarred for life and so on.
And things like this "
https://www.thesouthafrican.com/new...ni-cigarettes-illegalwho-is-adriano-mazzotti/" does not help the emotional state of those affected by the ban at all. Why is this guy not in jail ... the other day i witnessed a mother and teen son getting thrown in the back of a police van quite violently for not having on a mask ... surely this incident merits the same ?
Non smokers would not understand why smokers are acting up over this.
To sum it up, smoking is banned and most of the coping mechanisims for nicotine withdrawals is at present also banned... So ... call it wat it is... a high horse.
*This ban was not implemented to force people to stop smoking ... it was done to close down the competition.
