Now the world can read about the SA government's stupidity...

Edit: Haha, the two beginning paragraphs are amusing:

UPON ARRIVAL at an expensive restaurant near Sandton, Johannesburg’s financial district, nothing feels unusual, at least in this age of covid-19. The maître-d’ zaps a temperature gun at patrons’ masked faces and spritzes their hands with sanitiser. Only when ushered into the dining room does something seem odd: every table has a pot of tea.

South Africans like their rooibos, but the liquid in many tea-cups is a darker red—claret, even. On other tables there are cans of tonic next to teapots. Reality dawns when two young women are given shot glasses of Jägermeister inside their tea-cups.

Economy needs to revive itself, adapt and do away with Alcohol.

Industry's cannot go on... thinking ahead and going forward relying on alcohol. They must change their ways and do business regardless of alcohol. Many brands change or someone buys them out or changes the recipe. Then you are reliant on another persons product. That is just stupid.

Restaurants blaming that they cannot make money cause of alcohol. That is absurd. There are many shops and food places that sell perfectly good meals with normal soft drinks and no alcohol is on the table. I'm not saying no alcohol must be on the table, but an industry should not "stand still" because of it.

The fact that they want to go on strike and all that because of that, just shows you how reliant they are (or how reliant they made them-self on it). Very similar to an addiction, they can't go without it. They feel "a lack" without it.

SA needs to sober up, our people are dying due to alcohol. I know our every day person doesn't think it's true .The fact is, there are hundreds if not thousands of people that cannot hold their liquor. They cause accidents or get aggro and beat their wife or children when too much alcohol was consumed.

It is sad tho... that the minority is making it bad for the majority.

That’s when Advocate Alfred Cockrell took the bench by surprise, revealing that the Gauteng Health Department gave special permission for rehab centres to order a total of 60 cigarette cartons. The exemption was, allegedly, granted to help recovering addicts cope with the pressures of quitting serious narcotic addictions.

This is why all the cool kids go to rehab

Two kinds of problems in this world: theirs and mine

Guess which one you've just identified ...

and no, businesses do not have to evolve to do business without alcohol, government has to get the fahk out of the way of business in general and stop messing with things it is wholly incompetent in

I think you miss the point, if restaurants have to stop making their biggest profit from alcohol, the food prices will have to go double. Would you pay double for your meal, how many people will be able to afford eating out?
Have you been in a restaurant in Europe or USA, any ideas how much it costs?

and magically relocate to where the environmental conditions are favourable for said crops, then magically replace the crop that is already ready to harvest with another crop without waiting a year. also, money will fall from the sky to pay for everything.
