If the governments wants to aid people suffering in the lockdown, all it has to do is sell cigarettes at a Rx premium.
You can't fix stupid though.

They can't just arbitrarily (okay, they seem to be doing so in other areas) changes levies and taxes.

yes - shows how important is is.

They should have never banned it - rather let people exercise then take it away when people misbehave.
I think she was misinformed tbh , probably more smokers than people who excercise

When? next year...? How many reasons will they come up with to not be in court?

That's what I was thinking; good on Fita to try and do something about this madness, but it seems it's easy enough to get out of court if you're that far up the totem pole. They'll just ignore it until it goes away :(

And eating pap with your hands doesn't? Most people still do that, I dont see any education in this regard?

Views differ on that subject as there is evidence of just the opposite..

Only if you start a new, if you been smoking the damage is done stopping for 2/5 weeks does not fix that.

Any increase in looting shops yet or is that still to come?

Most of the stores I've passed over the handful of times I've been out, had all tobacco products removed from the counters and display areas; so they'd have to go an extra far to get their hands of stock.

What some participants in this thread (and the exercising one) seem to fail to realise is, that it's not what's good for you and what isn't. It's not about what's practical and what's not, or what one can best do to be compliant.

It's about the government arbitrarily introducing rules which do not appear to be for any reason, and with no meaningful data to justify their decisions.

If NDZ really cared about how smoking is bad for you, she wouldn't have accepted money from sellers of illegal cigarettes (as has been pointed out). Or she'd have moved to ban cigarettes entirely a decade ago during her term as health minister.

Clearly she doesn't care about this, she just likes power-tripping. "These are the rules, you can't buy smokes because I say so." I have yet to see any evidence to dissuade me of this.
