well they did announce that there could be loadshedding soon...

Because everything was stopped due to lockdown, people from overseas the Specialists did not come and do their maintenance on our Nuclear equipment. That is specialized work. Our locals can't perform those tasks. I think they also bring spares and special machinery for specific tasks.
How dare you.

Almost every single banned substance is an assault on your personal rights , we have just been conditioned to accept it .
Bans as a whole are largely unconstitutional everywhere in the world and this brings some of it into the picture.

I believe this is the email address for the official feedback for the lockdown regulations:
lockdowncomments@cogta.gov.za

It was in the original alert levels proposal document and I think this was where the 2000 submissions came from the NDZ used to justify maintaining the ban on cigarettes.

Everyone should try write a well constructed argument to this address for the ban to be lifted.

Thank you, I'll see that I send them a message. I don't think it'll change the ban because those who are rational and logical are ignored while this madness continues. It's always opposite-of-logic day in government. :(

And cmd Fried Chicken said 2 000 people asked the govt not to lift the ban?
Did her ex teach her to count? Is this African democracy? Does she not understand which is more?

Just stopped at the shop, bottle store next door had doors open, not for trade, but busy restocking shelves and fridges with beers, booze cold drinks etc. Tried my luck for a deal, but guy said sorry, cant help.

They know something we dont? Can I have a glimmer of hope in my eye? This is the first movement there since LD started.

I can't believe how big of an issue this is. I have not had a drop of alcohol during lockdown and guess what I am alive! It's a miracle humans don't die without alcohol and cigarettes. The people living in this country need to get their acts together and quit drinking so much.
I dont drink and I dont smoke but I had my constitutional right taken away and I was treated like a child. I pay tax.
Tell people they may not decide for themselves and then the govt decides for the people and they must shut up.
It leads to tears all around. I know. I lived in such a state. It was called the Republic of South Africa and John Vorster was the prime minister.

I’m starting to think it’s better for the economy to support illegal cigarette trade.

Legal Tobacco companies are downright corrupt anyway, and the govt sin tax just pays MPs fat salaries and tenderpreneurs
Did you learn nothing from the Gupta disaster?

So, this

She listened to 2k anti-smokers, but ignored the 18k vaper comments and requests to allow sales??? Is that what I'm seeing here???

This is why any court will overrule her and allow the sale of tabaco products again. The mere fact that she only looked at 2,000 out of the 70,000 received and also totally ignored all smokers, the whole tabaco industry, retail industry and more, and did this in less than 2 days and in the process overruled the president, is a clear indication that she flaunted democratic principals and therefore acted against the constitution. In doing this, she created a bad law, one which, like the Concourt president said before, they need to rectify.

While many journalists and private investigating firms are looking into this decision by NDZ, we all already know why she did this. She is corrupt to the core and taking bribes from the illicit sale of cigarettes by syndicates. There is nothing that sets her apart from any other corrupt ANC member. She acted unconstitionally because she needed to offer this opportunity to the syndicates in order to enrich herself and her family. Bigger question though, who else in the ANC is on the take here and involved in enriching themselves too. I am afraid she in not alone in this crime.

What bothers me more about this, is that there are millions, if not tens of millions of hungry and starving people, who voted for the ANC. The government is unable to feed them and looking for money to do so. Here they are, the ANC decided that they do not want R36m per day in taxes from cigarette sales. Just imagine how many people R36m per day could feed. Clearly the ANC does not care about their followers and want to see them dying off. They most likely became a problem for the ANC. Nonetheless, good luck to the dying voters.

But then you'll end up paying that tax shortfall instead of the smokers and drinkers.

Yep. Whoever still thinks that the ANC wouldn't take full advantage of the lockdown to loot and steal needs to catch a wake up.

There have been allegations of NDZ being connected to cigarette smuggling for a while now, so her extending a ban on tabacco products, which are way outside her portfolio, could easily be seen as evidence of gross criminality, given that smuggled cigarettes have more than doubled in price and are freely available. It seems very much as though government has willingly given criminal syndicates control of the cigarette trade.

Even more worrying is that a minister can seemingly overrule any presidential regulation he/she sees fit. We should be asking ourselves who is actually in charge at this stage.
