The situation around the world is worsening. I was watching BBC report from Thailand this morning. Just as bad there. Also, Japan has extended their hard lockdown until the end of May.

I’m starting to think it’s better for the economy to support illegal cigarette trade.

Legal Tobacco companies are downright corrupt anyway, and the govt sin tax just pays MPs fat salaries and tenderpreneurs
but I hate Sharp. Makes me cough.

Will I have a claim against Gov for lung damage if these illegal cigarettes hurt my lungs? Because of the Gov on a powertrip? Please advise.

This is actually an interesting question, somewhat in line with whether BAT and other tobacco manufacturers would have a claim against the government for lost revenue should the courts find that the ban is irrational and not within the stated aims of the DMA etc etc...

The ANC is hellbent on destroying the economy with their nonsensical rules.

The bans on cigarettes, alcohol and e-commerce simply makes no sense at all.

I am sure some of it is spite and others ideological or even corruption. CR must replace all these people with people that have a bit of commons sense.

On 23 April, I announced that cigarette sales would be permitted during Level 4. This was based on the view of the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC), and which was contained in the draft framework that was published for consultation.

After careful consideration and discussion, the NCCC reconsidered its position on tobacco. As a result, the regulations ratified by Cabinet and announced by Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma on 29 April extended the prohibition.

This was a collective decision and the public statements by both myself and the minister were done on behalf of, and mandated by, the collective I lead.

Looks like he's been instructed by NDZ to clear the air...

Listening to our people and their concerns during this period has been one of the distinguishing features of how we as government have managed this pandemic. We continue to listen to the concerns of our people and are prepared to make adjustments that balance people’s concerns about the challenges they face with the need to save lives.

Oh really.
