Did someone remind NUM Cyril how much money the illegal cigarette sellers donate to the ANC maybe?

They also did far more testing, which is his point. You can't compare numbers unless you're doing the same amount of testing...

You don't need to do the same level of testing to compare countries. You can just compare deaths and full hospitals vs empty ones.

Any indication on how the court application is proceeding and when a decision is expected?

The God complex is a term used to describe an individual who has an almost unshakeable belief in their own personal abilities. Generally characterised by an inflated sense of self-importance, entitlement and deep need for admiration, a person with a God complex also has a total lack of empathy for other people.

Usually referred to as Narcissistic Personality Disorder, it is a form of mental disorder where an individual is often obsessed with status and power.

They also had far more deaths? So unless that's being hidden we're not doing to badly.

This is all I'm interested in. I couldn't give 2 hoots as to why and how they came to extending the ban. All I want to hear now is when I can go buy my skyfes.

I think that is what everyone is waiting for now... Confirmation of when the case is lodged, and when it is scheduled to be heard etc...

When the alcohol ban is lifted, its going to be an even bigger clusterf**k, if India is anything to go by:
States have been pushing for liquor shops to reopen as excise duty on alcohol is a major source of income.

However, videos of snaking lines and jostling crowds in front of the shops have gone viral.

This is despite strict orders that people buying alcohol would have to stand six feet apart, and that only five people would be allowed inside a shop at any given time.

^^^^ This

I missed this article on Friday, but it contains some very pertinent comments:
In the South African context, the citizens of this country entered into an agreement of good faith when the lockdown started. While questioning some aspects of the lockdown, essentially the majority of South Africans accepted the regulations which buoyed the government. However, instead of maintaining this relationship with trust, the government is gradually stretching its tentacles across every aspect of South African life and attempting to dictate every move, allegedly because it is in the best interest of its citizens.

This inherent God complex with which we see the state approaching the lockdown, combined with multiple examples of mission creep, is deeply worrying. Particularly as the stubbornness and arrogance with which the government haphazardly passes these regulations is in many cases totally unjustified and deeply irrational, resulting in immense unnecessary economic harm. Of course, the South African government is also taking this particular mission very seriously with the full-scale deployment of 73,180 members of the SA National Defence Force – how else can you implement such arrogance unless it is backed up through the legitimised use of force?

This is why they'll backpedal on liquor sales on Level3.

It won't be a backpedal at all..

It will be a reconsideration of the collective, with fsck all scientific (or any other) backing.. just a "trust us, we know whats good for you"....

Looks like the food parcel queues we have here, doesn't it? Maybe I'm a dummy, but they wouldn't have had a problem with long queues and congestion in stores if they just let people shop piecemeal like they always do.

There is no rational solution to pent-up demand. Even opening the supermarket wine shelves would be total chaos!?

This confirms my theory that shutting down the economy was a much easier decision, than trying to open it up again is going to be. A total lack of forethought is evident, at so many levels...

Edit: New MyBB article covers some of these points: https://mybroadband.co.za/forum/threads/the-big-question-what-happens-after-the-lockdown.1082484/

To be honest... You can't compare situations in general unless they are the same.

Trying to compare South African figures to USA figures is pointless, even if we had the same amount of testing done so many factors don't match up that it would effectively be like comparing apples to oranges or something.
