Hi

I have 5 PC's connected via lan cables and 2 laptops connecting via wireless to a netgear router all running Windows XP in my office environment.
I desperately need to implement some method of tracking the usage from all the different PC's including
the protocol/ports used if possible. I have a spare PC on which I can install either windows or linux.

Anyone out there able to shed some light on how to achieve this?

Thanks

One possible solution is IPCop (Linux Firewall on your spare PC) using the Traffic Control & Report Addon (TCAR). You would need to buy a straight ADSL modem - DLink 2500U? - as your current Netgear router would be used as a switch / WAP on the inhouse side of the firewall. If you go this route download IPCop v1.4.21 NOT 1.9 as it's still in beta testing.

TCAR blocks all internet access by default and you then enable access per PC using various bandwidth options, daily, weekly etc. Daily and on demand bandwith reports are available with billing options.
