Want to have a bank account in European country. Is this possible without being resident in that country?

Thank you Messugga, which country & bank combination allow this? I have read elsewhere that this is very difficult to do.

You can open accounts in most countries as a tourist. Just walk into any bank with your passport and some form of proof of address. In the US I used a scanned copy of my Telkom account. In the Netherlands I used the business card from the hotel I stayed in. Just make sure that they activate international banking on the account and cards or you won't be able to use them in SA.

Payoneer might be another option if you can't travel to open the accounts as they give you virtual US, UK, EU and CN accounts.

Probably wants to open an account without being physically there.

The FICA stuff is adhered to in most overseas countries. Switzerland is an exception, but you must still be there and have a substantial initial deposit. Beware there is negative interest there. I have had an acc with Bank Leu since the 1970's but keep a very small balance, ChF50,- to avoid negative interest

You are also supposed to notify SARS about foreign bank accounts

Some banks in the Cayman Islands are more relaxed about proofs, etc but again, will not look at you without $10000 to deposit
