Bank branches where you can apply for your smart ID card

Only a handful of branches. Luckily I already have my smart ID card. It was quite quick to get from home affairs.

Open to everyone? I tried to get my Smart ID when I was applying for a new passport. But the home affairs person told me that only those born in SA can apply for it for the time being. That was early 2017.

Not something I'm concerned about. When my local FNB branch offers it then I'll apply.

what's the cost
Same as at Home Affairs I believe.

I paid R140 for an ID card and R400 for a passport last year. They take digital photographs on the spot. I was really impressed at how well the service worked.

I fail to see why I have to pay for an ID the government requires me to have. When it is free, I will apply.

*translation I don't have the money, so can't do it.

** but I still shouldn't pay for something the government has decided to spend billions on for no blasted good reason other than some idiot getting tech happy.

*** because they can't / won't / don't do any proper policing shutting down fake ID's I shouldn't have to pay.

**** save the arguments why it is a good thing, I'm still not paying because by the time they have finished rolling the thing out, the crooks will have caught up on the tech and the reasons for implementing it will be moot anyway so I'm really not paying!!

***** And I really refuse to pay for having the government control through ID's. We managed for blasted centuries without this kind of system of control and the US manages just fine without a formal ID system as well so ... why do we put up with it? Let alone pay to let them know who we are, take our fingerprints like we are criminals, and where we are so they can come find us when we are presumed guilty.

I have been putting off going to my local Home Affairs to get this ID document upgrade mostly due to the long queue's of mostly foreigners.

Still the same. Tried in December together with a renewal of passport, since the old ID has been washed a couple of times :) . Was told I can only get a green book replacement, so I left it.

Don't the states uses an "enhanced" drivers license as their ID? It's pretty much the equivalent.

Also, your first ID is free. Any replacement ones cost. EDIT: or are you complaining about the cost of the smart ID?

Only if you've never had any form of ID before.

If you've ever had an ID book, you have to pay R140 for the smart ID.

Big Brothers little helpers

SO
Tell me
How many of you Tech whizz's has managed to find out just exactly WHAT is contained within the cyber-vaults of the "Smart"- card ?
or
Do you just as a matter of course TRUST the current ANC government and the crooks that got the tender for the system ?

It has your DNA string in it... as well as all your bank details as well...

So you better not lose it or someone will clone you and steal all your money.

Citizen PAIN ......

I take it then -- YOU are NOT a tech-whizz ......
You are aware of the drive to create a national DNA database ? ( parts of it already exist )
Bank details -- one of the planned but not yet implemented functions of the multi-function / multi-layered chip
WHY do you think the banks are involved ?
WHY do you think that Banks have access to the Home Affairs database other digital data ?
( Reference the recent massive leak -- details of which now no longer feature in the media headlines and for which there are apparently no convictions )

BUT
I guess I should have only expected a nonsense reply from you
and
NO answer to the actual question .......

WHAT is stored in the Smart Card ID ?
IS one able to access this information ?
IF so HOW ?
IF one is not able to , WHY is one forced to purchase it , AND forced to carry it around in order to prove to some state flunky that you are who you are ?
Apart from the fact that without it you are to all intents and purposes DEAD -- a non-person !

I put it to you, that your tinfoil hat is leaking... you need a new one.

Foiled

I put it to you, that your tinfoil hat is leaking... you need a new one.
I put it to you that you are disassembling and unable to answer the question as first stated
Normal MO for sock pups ( many of which inhabit these domains )

Perfect timing, this article. Need to get the daughter her passport and might as well upgrade to the new ID as well
