Like I said yesterday, they are a bunch of idiots and are trying to put the blame where there is no blame. They are the only ones to blame for being complete and utter fools and morons like so many other institutions in SA

i'll maybe download the report, and see if i can find out by my lonesome self (with the hacking ability of squirel) to see if i can view the hidden parts...

....not that a 74mb + report would make any sense to me

Hey you must use the highly technical hacking methods they are talking about otherwise you will get nothing:p

I seem to remember reading that after the stuff was put onto wikileaks the CC pulled the doccies and did it properly, might be wrong.
Maybe those actions themselves highlight their incompetence?

LOL @ "highly technical instructions" :D

I can remember reading the "highly technical instructions" on one of these threads. I think it involved like 5 mouse clicks or something :p

If you look at the standard of our maths and science grade 12's it is not hard to understand why simple things become very technical to some.

New article. No mention of poor protection of document. Maybe we should release a article explaining the facts of how the document was poorly protected?

Good idea I think. They are so bloody dumb that maybe they still don't realize that they were stupid from the start. Maybve they actually think that this document really was so secure that only hackers with great skills could open this.....
Sad but it won't surprize me:rolleyes:

Am I correct in saying that even my mybroadband hand over the IP of the poster, they would still need to go via the service provider in order to trace the person?

Unless it is a static IP with some dns records they could use to find you.

Yes, and an IP address is not 100% positive proof that said person was involved.

They would need a warrant for the ISP to hand over their logs.

But what would the IP address prove? The original thread was deleted due to a take-down request. But I am sure MyBB can still get the IP of the person involved. But one post simply contained instructions on how to do it... not an admission or confession that anyone did actually did it. Another poster sent it to Wiki-leaks, but there is no guaranteed that he "hacked" it himself.

This is going to be incredibly hard for the CC to prove.

I am honoured that I was able to participate in that thread. However having participated in it, I know that the thread was removed pretty damn quickly, as soon as the mods got light of it. Seems the competition commission is looking for a scapegoat here at any cost. It certainly can't be mybroadband considering the prompt action in removing that thread; it certainly can't be the supposed "hackers" as they did nothing illegal in highlighting the CC's incompetence. They didn't have to hack the damn thing. It boils down to CC's incompetence. They are solely to blame!

Just to inform you guys: We have not been contacted by the Police - like you guys I also just read about this stuff in the media :)

I assume myadsl will work with the police on this? Not that I know what info myadsl have to offer them in the first place.

You want to try and "hack" the report that is currently on the CC website? If you manage that, jikes, you're good! By the way the version on their site is scanned images - you'll need to have superpowers to view behind the hidden parts.

More amazing to me is that the banks shamelessly continue overcharging us for (inter alia) ATM transactions.

MyBB has it's own lawyers which deal with all things online. I am 100% certain rpm would handle all of this through the lawyers. He has a vested interest to protect the users here as far as possible.

The CC would make a report to the police... who to be fair should have told them to get stuffed... when I went to the cops they told me they could not make a case without an ID number or some type of identifying evidence.

So the CC then has to hire private investigators to get the evidence they need. MyBB tells the PI to get stuffed without a case number or a court order. Catch-22 for the CC.

But let's say they somehow get a warrant or a court order... then they have to do the same for the ISP of the person involved (if they can actually identify exactly which one user was to blame).

Like I said... this is going to be a long and arduous road for them.

Google's cache saved me pages 1 and 3 when it suddenly got clobbered! The original post told one of the page offering the files, a utility to combine them into one, removing the "copy" restriction in the process, and tips as to how to set your text colour. DJK then said he is a "non-geek" ( not sure about that one! ). ;)
