How would it be possible for MBB to make the identities available - this is an anonymous board ?

I cannot see that anything illegal has happened here, and really, the CC has a lot to answer for in terms of its security shortcomings.

They appear hell-bent on creating the evil hacker myth as a smokescreen for their failings and is it not time for the facts to be released to the public in general through the same media that the CC are crying to.

um, your IP address appears to the mods and is shown attached to every post you make. They are not visible to the public. Those IP addresses can be tracked using your ISP's logs. They show which account the IP is attached to, when that person came online and offline and which sites they visited.

You didn't know that?

Well it'd be a royal joke if said person was using GPRS or 3G prepaid bundles at the time of posting :D

Sure it can identify an IP, but it can't identify me.

There may be 5 people sharing my connection, I may be using an I Cafe...

I'm working through a proxy (something to do with our ISP) ... and I can reliably say that I've seen someone 15km's away from me posting from the same IP as I am (This is on another forum I admin on, not myBB).

The cops will have to cover most of Cape Town.

Even with an IP linked to an account - (not that I'd trust telkom's accounting for this) you'd need to prove who was actually posting via the IP/computer.

Ja, that's why I said they are going to have a hard time of it. It depends how badly they want to save face and avoid a civil action by the banks.

Forget civil action BY the banks ... we should get together and implement a civil action AGAINST the banks ... :D

Pity everyone is calling the Competition Commission a bunch of idiots, considering they are the only people in the country doing something about the bank cartels... but then lemmings are fickle... and the fickle bend easily.

Good luck to all those involved in this new soap opera.

What have they really done so far, except leaking information they thought secure?

LOL... we call a spade a spade here. Thanks for stating the obvious. We all know who the competition commission is and what they do.

In this instance though they deserve the reprimand. They failed to secure a document, that was then leaked and they have tried to blame someone else for it.

Would you prefer that we just sweep this ineptitude under the carpet and not try to keep anyone in this country on their toes?

isn't that how we got into this mess in the first place?

Thanks for playing.

Nobody is attacking the CC for what they do.

The CC is attacking us, calling us thieves and criminals when the truth is they made an insecure document available to the public.

They themselves have made this an issue and seem to have dug themselves in too deep. If they had just accepted their cock-up 99% of the population would never have heard of this document.

Eek ! Garyvdh and I agree on something.

curious Q, doesn't seem that the banks are going to do anything to the CC at all but rather go via their 'hacker delusion'.
