Bank transaction export file types.

Not sure if this is the right section.

I'm busy with an application that can import bank transactions from the exports that bank allows. I have an FNB business account and can export files in .OFC, .OFX, QIF and .CSV.

I'm looking for test data for some of the other banks like Nedbank, ABSA, Standard Bank, Capitec and Investec. I have tried getting the info directly from the banks on what file types can be exported and getting example data from them but have had no luck.

Can anyone provide me with a set of sample file for each of the banks various export file types?

Absa is the same as you've listed. Also MS Money.

File types from Absa might be the same but is the data in them in the same layout.

I work on pastel bank manager and i have to select the bank the import it's from. Haven't tried selecting a different bank to the import file i have.

Why not. Surely it's not that much of a secret. How does a developer get to integrate his apps using third party data if they don't provide any info on how this data is constituted.

I'm not the developer so my terminology might be wrong. I need to give the data to my developer.

Just open an account with all the banks and do it yourself?
Else keep bugging the banks

Now to get some sample data.

Getting a sample from my sister for Nedbank and Standard bank, Capitec from my brother and ABSA from a friend.

Don't know anyone with Investec so will hound them some more.

If you have corporate banking then chances are they are making use of MT940 files. The company I work for makes use of FNB and we approached their RMB I.T Project dept. To download the data has to be done via SFTP and self generated certificate that will only allow one IP by the banks Firewall (FNB's policy is only one IP other banks may allow more) When we approached them the bank was already linked to our mother company in Europe who make use of citi bank, that tells you MT940 file format is an international accepted standard. Because of their 1 IP policy we had to make use of the statement 3 format.

Not looking to tie directly into the bank system yet.

More to allow users to download their statements and be able to import into our system.

You would think so yes as multiple programs are required to read them and they are not bank specific. Example I use YNAB and it's an american program.
