Bank Zero beats Discovery Bank, TymeBank in 2025 digital banking showdown

Bank Zero offers the most affordable fees of the three prominent digital banks in South Africa, while Discovery Bank's Gold pay-as-you-transact (PAYT) account is the most expensive, a MyBroadband analysis has revealed.

Digital banks like Bank Zero, TymeBank, and Discovery Bank can offer South Africans an affordable alternative to traditional banking in South Africa.

Anyone who invested with Tymebank, you invested in a Pyramid scheme. Goodluck when it all come crumbling down.

Bank Zero now also supports Google Wallet. Loaded it a few days ago, but did not have money in there. I transferred money into my BZ account and will test it when I go get something for lunch just now.

I use Bzero but also have a std bank account . The bank zero security features get in the way. For example SAPO requires you to swipe your card. BZero declines POS Swipes, I use a Shift card for travel but I forsee security features being an issue when traveling also.

Virtually zero difference there between Tyme and Zero, plus Zero for some insane reason charges you for statements so you have to keep the ones they send you. You can also turn off the SMS notifications with Tyme so you won't incur any fees.

It's guaranteed up to R100k so I'm fine.

I'm not sure naming a bank Zero was smart, they need to pivot on that front. Tyme, Discovery, that sounds aspirational.

Just wish they could change to app-based 2FA and not sms to eliminate sim-swap fraud.
Well I've taken the stance if there's any fraud it's on them.

My only issue with BZ, is the app UI 🚫
Looks extremely dated. And yes, I know some people prefer the simple look.

Lol

Mybroadband trying everything but the kitchen sink to promote Bank zero... even ignoring pluses in the other banks to make Bank zero palatable.

Do they have virtual cards yet?
