Even without the import tariffs EVS would be very expensive.

The big issue IMO is that they are treating an EV with the same gloves that they do with an ICE in terms of how long they last. An EV has orders of magnitude less to go wrong. If the banks really want to put their "commitment to climate change" to the the actual test, they would offer different financing for EVs. Offer finance for an EV over 10 years and they would suddenly become (at least cashflow wise) affordable for a lot more people.
