Cuba? Aren't they the World Champions? Except that they don't play in the World Series... :)

The World Series is only called such because the original sponsor of the event was a newspaper called "The World". Or was it "News of the World"?

You see Stickfigure, it is a global event.

His claim that it was played by only the USA was incorrect. Toronto (that's in Canada btw) has won the world series in at least one occasion if memory serves.

Is it a truely global world series? No, of course not but then I never claimed it was. ;)

Bah forgot to include Canada  My whole point was that they call it the WORLD series yet only two countries take part, typical..

Also pretty sure it's "The World" DJK as "News of the World" is an English newspaper.

Aha, thanks. Always get those two mixed up.

But this is much like saying that South Africans are absurd for calling our test series against Australia, The Castle Test Series, because the cricket isn't played at or in a castle...

Yip... Much like the Superbowl, is it played in a super bowl?

But again all to do with the merger of the NFL and AFL . Atleast the NBA calls their final game the NBA Final and not the NBA World Series or something ridiculous.
