Dear All

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself, Reza the operations director of R&M Group and Nian Electronic South Africa. Hope you are all having a pleasant Friday, We would have replied sooner if we were aware of this post but unfortunately we were only notified a short while ago.

I would like to address a number of questions that has been asked in the following manner and we welcome an appreciate all feedback which can assist us in our future marketing strategies and communication with our clients.

We are an organization that specializes in providing solutions tailored to the requirements and needs of our valued clients. we are not merely a reseller of inverters, batteries and so on... The marketing material that has been posted on this thread is merely a starting point to provide information to our clients, we always insist on meeting with the client to assess the property as well as the electrical consumption, needs, requirements and habits accurately to ensure that the appropriate solution is utilized and installed. We have number of solutions and products with different specifications and applications, which is tailored by our technical team to meet the clients requirement after their needs has been accurately assessed.

The specification sheet that is used in this post is only applicable to our standard UPS backup battery systems, all of our inverters come with a 3 year warranty and the batteries used for this specific marketing brochure (and not the hybrid off/on grid system), are 102AH deep cycle Raylite batteries (South African Manufacturer) which also comes with a 1year warranty. The picture of the installation that is on this thread is once again merely an example of an installation at a cluster house in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg and the system has been working effectively and efficiently thus far through a number of load shedding periods and will continue to do so in the future.

With regards to the batteries and the question that was asked "can the batteries last 5-7 hours during load shedding" there are number of things that needs to be taken into consideration, firstly the brochure does not claim that all the listed appliances can be switched on simultaneously for 5 to 7 hours, through our extensive research and past installations experience we have concluded that normal household consumes approximately 800 to 900Wh and small households consumes approximately 400 to 500Wh, this assumption is made based on fact that the client is diligent and knowledgeable of the appliances that can and cannot be used during load shedding period, this is another reason why we insist on meeting with our clients and explaining on how everything works before proceeding with any installation. The 3000W system that is on the brochure clearly states that a small geyser can be placed on the system, I'm sure that everyone is aware of the fact that a geyser can hold hot water up to 12 hours and on a normal scenario during load shedding period based on our experience, a normal geyser will take 15 to 20 minutes to heat the water back to 60 degrees which consumes 500Wh approximately (this obviously does not apply if the entire geyser has been emptied out). The 3000W system stores 2488Wh power in the batteries and if the client is not excessively using appliances the system will easily operate between 5 to 7 hours.

The brochure for the hybrid off/on grid system utilizes completely different inverters (hybrid inverters with completely different applications, specification and software, which was not provided and nor is it on this thread), the batteries used for the hybrid systems are all VRLA lead acid batteries and chosen based on the requirements of the clients.

The inverters that we use and install do not have a separate charging unit, the unit itself has the charging ability.

The enclosures used comes with fans to increase performance and life time of the batteries used.

In some cases the units are installed with manual or automatic timer changeover switch depending on the needs and requirements of the client. We utilize the services of Schmidhauser Electrical who are well respected and reputable in the industry and COC will also be provided by them as the systems are connected to the DB board.

I would also like to bring to your attention that all of our prices are including of VAT.

Once again we thank you for all your questions and feedback and we are available to answer more questions that you may have. Also kindly have a look at our other website which is dedicated to power solutions only www.nianelectronic.co.za as our main website is currently in the process of being upgraded and updated.

Kind regards
Reza

Wow, so much wrong I can't even be bothered to cover it all, anyway I'll focus on just the one gem.

"The 3000W system stores 2488Wh power in the batteries" - Yes, but these specific batteries have an expected life cycle of about '20 charges' if you discharge past 80%... They won't last a year (And even then only if you discharge at reasonable and not insane rates) unless you keep them above 50% constantly, so actually only 1244Wh. http://www.battery.co.za/wp-content/themes/battery/dl/Batteries and Inverters.pdf https://www.google.com/url?q=http:/...tachment.php?attachmentid=235840&d=1437140950

Worse this is the *20h* discharge rate - at 5 hours you are down to 960Wh of usable power, at 2 hours 804Wh.

Never mind the current you are drawing when your clients 3000W geyser element turns on for 'only 15 minutes' - which will draw likely up to 720Wh (ignoring anything else that might *also be turned on). Half of the batteries capacity at the one hour rate drawn in only 15 minutes...
At the 15 minute rate that is probably the batteries entire capacity, of course we don't even know what the 15 minute rate is because the batteries aren't even tested for discharge faster than an hour and will likely fail catastrophically, which would be why they don't test it for that.

At least there are fans to help the fumes spread, and even further add to the load, when they catch alight because somebody washed their hands...

Dear sir,

I would like to go back to what I said above that no system is installed unless we assess the needs of the client, which means that if we go to a clients house and their geyser is drawing more electricity than any of our systems / solutions can support then we either recommend an installation of a larger inverter with different batteries or the isolation of the geyser from the UPS system, the same concept goes for any other appliance that we might come across while doing a site inspection, (we also give training with regards to the usage of other appliances such as kettle, coffee machine and so on) we are not resellers of inverters or batteries but power solution providers so non of our solutions will ever be sold to a client without proper consultation and Assesment, we have done number of installation in the last 6 months and to date we haven't had any fire incidence but thank you for your concern and we will certainly keep that in mind and we certainly have the relevant warrenties and insurance policies to make sure our clients are protected at all times.

For any further information please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards

Reza

Your brochure is misleading and should not be used or sent to anyone. You make way too much assumptions re. homeowner's knowledge of electrcity and batteries.

Your brochure is purely designed to mislead and try and draw in customers.

Secondly no battery manufacturers are giving any warranty whatsover anymore on batteries that are used during loadshedding. These batteries will be tested during warranty claims and warranties will be rejected based on findings of multiple instances of deep discharge during loadshedding.
