Battery theft and vandalism cost Vodacom and MTN over half a billion rand annually

While South Africa's network operators have said that battery theft and vandalism at their base stations have declined since 2023, MTN and Vodacom have noted that the crimes still cost them a combined R550 million this year.

Several years of severe load-shedding had necessitated that South Africa's mobile operators install increased tower backup capacity to reduce the power cuts' impact on customer connectivity.

Can't have nice stuff in a land of criminals, and South Africa is most definitely a gangster paradise from parliament to the streets.

About them batteries again.... Cellphone cartels, are you trying to tell us that you need more money? Are your shareholders pushing new frontiers in corporate greed? Is Mr Joosub needing an upgrade since Adrian Gore just got a new Lambo and he wants to tell Adrian to "eat his heart out" next time they meet for lunch in Sandton?
