Ok so I have fibre with Vumatel and Cell C as ISP. The Vumatel ONT is installed in my office. Cell C connected their CPE (Huawei 8351 router) to the ONT. When I hook up my PC directly to the CellC CPE I get fast internet connection.

However I have Asus DSL-A68U ADSL router than I want to use as the main router/switch. Because control. So I need to have this setup:

[ONT Port 1] <--> [CellC CPE] <--> [Asus LAN port 1] <--> [My LAN]

Thus I tried to connect from Asus LAN port 1 to CellC CPE port and set up the Asus LAN port 1 as WAN port. But then I simply cannot get internet connection. The network connectivity on the asus says that the ISP's DHCP service is not working. I woud llike the ASUS to provide the DHCP is possible. I see the internet connection params on asus to Assign IP. nothing. I tried PPPoE, but then I have to fill in user/pass and I dont know what is is.

I read somewhere that you have to have CAT6 between CPE and router and ONT. Dunno if that is true as I only have CAT5.

My knowledge is limited and I would greatly appreciate help.

Firstly, no need for CAT6, 5 will be fine.
Secondly any reason you have to use Cell C CPE? On Vumatel you should be able to connect any device you want to the ONT, just note that you need a "port" reset on the ONT so you can register the MAC of the new device. You should be able to connect the Asus directly to the Vumatel ONT.

Is your LAN1 also the WAN port? That could be the reason as you connecting to the LAN and not the WAN.

Hmm ok didnt know I needed a port reset. I dont really need the CPE. But it does offer something of value. It is LTE router that can provide fallback if fibre dies. Not sure how often that would be and if it is worth having.

In the Asus setup you can tell it which of the LAN ports must become the WAN port.
