Yes, it must be addressed, not by taking the wealth of someone else, but by enabling (quality education for all and safety and security for example) and then building new wealth, which has actually been hampered the political party in power and their policies. But that same party gets voted in time and again.
Ah but you are thinking from the viewpoint of someone who wants to fix the situation with practical actions.
Education is the last thing the ANC wants to improve, throughout history it has been shown that people are easier to control when they are ignorant.
If everyone in SA was well educated and had gainful income then the ANC would be entirely irrelevant and would lose their power very quickly.

I get the impression that the whole theatre is blowing up, when proponents start making stupid and ridiculous statements then you know that the gig is up.
Lol...one of the most ethically and morally upstanding people in the public sphere. None of her statements are ridiculous unless you're on the other side of the fence.

This is one of those questions that I don't think has any good answers. Both sides have valid points but it calls for mutually incompatible courses of action

If everyone in SA was well educated and had gainful income
Which isn't particularly plausible. Even with the rest of the world standing still it would take forever to catch up

Bollocks. ROFL.
Perhaps about the school food, but I basically left for similar reasons. Bursaries going to black kids who are way better off yet have had weaker academics. You only have to be on the receiving end of that sort of thing once for it to leave a lasting impression on your long term thinking about whether you want to be on the SA train

Even if it's all justifiable in broad historic context practically that's a very easy choice to make

It's also two-sided, those kids that are better off and had weaker academics are used to justify the system to receive additional funding when they passed. Even amongst black kids, often the system is skewed towards benefitting the kid that is better off because it attracted donors and shows off that charity paid off. I had a lot of kids that I put thru the system and came from hell, get turned down for different kids. BEE is exactly what it says it is, but it is abused in so many ways.

Everyone hung up on the petrol attendant comment cos they have no answer for my actual question. Same schit different day. Weak sauce though my word.

You never answered my question though... What should the reparations be for the past injustices?

And also really weird to be able to afford to take one's whole family overseas to escape not getting a free school meal. Very odd indeed.
How is it weird to be unhappy to pay taxes but see how others get the benefit of your taxes, and you the tax payer is excluded from benefiting from your own taxes?

This is what she said when I asked her why she emigrated. I am sure that crime also played a role. She is from an old socialist country, so she has lived the results of socialism and hates it, like all people who had lived in socialist countries.

Yeah, the crime thing I can understand but getting her knickers in a knot about a school meal is just nuts.

I hope she emigrated to a country with no form of social security whatsoever or she must be beside herself now.

How can they still have a job? We can't have millions of petrol attendants just because people are black, somewhere there is going to be a cutoff on the number of employable people and the saturated job market. Everyone needs rare skills or would benefit from rare skills, the decision at the end of the day lies on the employer who they want to go with in any case.

Just as an employer would easily take a BEE candidate, they'd also take a client with more social skills, similar language and culture or a better appearance.
The quality of service nowadays, or rather the total lack thereof, is testament to the lowering of standards just to get a higher scorecard.

The thing about kids not being given food while others got their plates did not happen, it's one of MyBb's legendary stories.

How about this theory (troll me if you hate it).

Instead of free housing being for 100% black people, it's for the poorest of the poor, look at that, suddenly there are integrated communities.

District 6 used to be multi cultural integrated, are all those people and their descendents being reintegrated or at least being offered the choice?

Instead of aa, what about affirmative education, how about educating and feeding the children of the poor instead of forcing private companies to have racial quotas, oh look, 10 to 15 years from now we have an educated younger population ready to take on the world of capitalism.

Instead of Rich black people getting richer in the name of BEE why not put in incentives that focus on helping private or state companies uplift their lower to middle income employees?

Stop focusing on race. The white population is declining, drastically, it costs this country and therefore all of us dearly because old money and new, old experience and new is either leaving or being forced out of the economy.

Focus on uplifting the poor by enabling the rest of the population to prosper.

Imagine what would happen if racism in any form was banned, from political populism to race based segregation, be it physical, political or economically.

Anyway, snide comments on my honest thoughts in 3,2,1...

Dude I can assure you that none of these geniuses understand the first thing about modern democratic socialism. They emigrate to countries with NHI, welfare, free education and then deadass turn around and trash talk socialism.

The say "socialist" like it's a swear word, like trump trained them to, without any consideration whatsoever for the socialist programmes that the planets most prosperous countries currently have in place.

They'll throw the CCP in your face then turn around and beam about the the UKs NHI or education system. "Everything just works you know, and it's all free!" How many times haven't you heard that from expats? Suggest even in passing that SA should aspire to such a system and you'll get a hundred pages of snivelling about socialism.

Numpties.
