Hi All,

Came across this interesting article on the how the definition of broadband has been intepreted in the UK by their ASA.

Its found here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3563320.stm

I would like to know what people think of this article..

Thanks!

Instead it accused rival providers of confusing consumers by promoting services with speeds of 150kbps or 256kbps as broadband.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jee and we're getting 128k "broadband" which in itself technically isn't broadband, but then we have the babboons behind helpdesk telling us that 128/30k ie 4k is actually acceptable speeds for their broadband ....
I'd love to see what the ASA here in SA concludes.

Im more shocked at the fact that they charge 17.99 pounds for 512kBps package!!
Hmm so if the current exchange rate is R11.85 per pound then, what is it.. R213 and 20c per month
/me feels ***-raped by sentechs R850 for 256k package ----NOTE 256k compared to 512k

I am so tired of the marketing bull these days that I have to mute TV adverts else i'll go mad.[:(!]
Phrases like - Better, New, Improved, Advanced, Garauntee'd, Only, Save, Money Back, More Reliable, Even Better, Elegant, Streamlined, Compared to, Independant Tests have Prooven, Better Service, Even Better Service, Quality, Free Gift, More Beautiful, Even Younger, More Advanced, Even More Advanced and the infamous SALE must be bannnnnnned.[xx(]

Anyway - thats just me.[;)]

I think that BT Group and Telewest should have marketed using "Actual Speed", "Actual Garauntee's" and "Actual SLA's". They chickened out by moaning and getting their publicity that way and are not actually doing anybody a favour by moaning about the use of "full speed". Just a publicity stunt - moaning about the definition of broadband would have been useful, and then they would have lost, because, I agree, 512Kbps is the widely accepted starting speed for broadband.

32 = Dialup, 56 = Dialup, 64 = ISDN, 128 = IDSN, 512 = ADSL = Broadband, 1MB = WI FI, 10MB - 100MB = Ethernet.

What are SenTegh calling what they provide again ?

The more you know - the worse it gets.

Just going slightly OT what about "baked in goodness" what is "goodness"?

but really, a 128k package is a product name, it means you get from 1.28kb download and 12.8k speed [;)]

just gotta rub this one in:
QUOTE: His ISP, Bredbandsbolaget "also offers 100-megabit-per-second service for 595 Swedish crowns ($79.49) a month in select neighbourhoods where the telecom wiring is state-of-the-art."

SOOOO, /me gets out calculator.. then they would be paying R524 per month for ONE HUNDRED Mbps
Isnt that just great
