AARTO was only very recently rolled out everywhere... or isn't rolled out fully everywhere yet...

****. I have a Metro pois building a few km away, maybe i'll pop in and ask them to check if there's any fines outstanding. Dilemna then is they might force me to pay right there and then...

On a side note, a cop gave me a 2k fine for expired license card 2 years ago, followed by another 1k for "obstructing the flow of traffic" (I followed his instructions and pulled over on the left lane with hazards on etc).

I took it and went to the magistrates court and the guys just scrapped it to my surprise. All I got was a "go renew your card". Since then I always go see those chaps for all fines - most of the time they just scrap it.

srsly? I did not know that, I thought the whole point of AARTO and all that was to connect everything together, to make our law enforcement for efficient.....

It is... but the VID has given us mere mortals in the rest of the country a break so we're still on the old systems.

Actually, I think if its a Metro fine, then the RTMC probably can't see them on their system so you are probably safe anyway.

AARTO isn't in effect everywhere yet boet ek se. :)

This is correct.

Kempton Park (EMPD) operates apart from AARTO (you can view those fines through Paycity, btw).

And a word of advice about EMPD fines - even if you pay the admission of guilt like a good citizen, you can still get hit with a criminal record for your efforts. Amazing, outrageous, but true. I had to deal with this a few weeks ago after getting a ticket at the airport. I insisted that they cancel the ticket and not reduce it, and managed to get that done by going to the traffic court building in person. Otherwise I'd be unable to get travel visas in future.

So the usual practices will take place. Same old same old.
Thanks for the heads up. Will use this info if needed.
Hopefully won't though.

Why would you be threatened with arrest when your vehicle is roadworthy, your licence is valid and you have no overdue fines, and you refuse to pay a bribe??
Because you should not be threatened even if have outstanding fines.

How did you get a ticket at the airport?

There is ample parking space.

I'm guessing it was in the roadblock they have there occasionally just as you exit the airport?

Why am I silly? If you committed a traffic offence and were issued with a fine, you need to either dispute it officially or pay it.

Am I missing something?
Its called due process.

“While hidden speed cameras are super money-spinners for greedy municipalities and roadblocks can detect unroadworthy vehicles, together with those that have unpaid traffic fines, neither tackle the wanton reckless behaviour that plays itself out on our roads every day.”

What does fix behavior is allowing driver or 3rd party submission of video evidence of reckless behavior. Makes active policing very broad as you never know who is watching in a society which has a “catch me if you can” philosophy for everything from basic stuff to criminal behavior.

Pitty people fight it much like they fight everything.
