I have been caped by telkom internet ( i did go over the 3 gigs )

But my understanding of the ICASA regs is that i should still have Local access / bandwidth

AM i correct in this assumption? if so how do force them to re connect me so i can get my E-mail ( my main concern)

Tx

Wow, you believe that Telkom will actually follow any of the ICASA regulations? You must be new :p

Basically you are hard capped and, short of purchasing a pre-paid account with webafrica or some such, you are screwed.

Welcome to the wonderful world of SA Broadband!

Update:

Have logged a call with Telkokm customer care ( for what good theat will do )

have also sent the following mail ti ICASA
-----------------------
To: 'consumer@icasa.org.za'
Subject: Telkom Internet Violating Regulations

Dear Sir

As I am sure aware the new broadband regulations require local traffic not to be subject to "The Cap", however telkom internet has suspended my ADSL account.

When I phoned 10215 and asked why I was told it was because I was caped. I then told the person I was dealing with ICASA has made capping local bandwidth illegal and I would like access to local sites and my E Mail. I was told this was not possible as I was hard capped.

Please advise me what action I should take to bring these law breakers to book.

Regards

---------------------

When I phoned the number on there web site i was told the process will take 14 days! ( when i said "wow that fast" the reply was " do you realy think so?" from this it seems they also think their turnarround times are slow)

Ill keep this thread updated with progress.

whenever i find myself with some time im gonna phone telkom internet and "follow up" on my call

@RegBes - kudos for sending the email - I wish everyone who was capped did the same.

Just get a 1Gb prepaid account from Webafrica, it's R70, SAIX based, you should be able to retreive your email, otherwise just check it on the telkomsa.net site.

If you ask me, if its law that ICASA has made these regulations then we should be able to do something about it. Just depends what ICASA actually said.

Telkom admitted its up to the ISP to implement these changes. They easily got around the shaped/unshaped thing, but the local access they said the ISP needs to do. However we know it needs to change with SAIX and I.S.

Can we not set up some sort of template for all the users out there who get capped to use - the idea here is the easier it is to send the complaint the more people will do it

also if we had a register of these complaints seperate from ICASA we could make a huge stink about unresolved complaints something like " My broadband reports that its users have logged 200 complaints over the last month with only 25 being dealt within the 14 day period alloted by ICASA". and send it to all the news guys

no point sending 1000 emails and they all just get dumped by the email server as "crap" and nobody reads them
