I guarantee you that after six months into your contract a other provider will better it all in all! probably make something similar permanent or better it!
So what are you saying? Do not sign a contract because someone might "make something similar" in 6 months? What's the point of that? You will sit and pay through your teeth for 6 months in "hope" of a competitor "matching" it? The 2GB offer is >>permanent<< if you sign the contract.....
There's quite a bit of evidence that things do NOT change that fast in this country. Vodacom has been on their tariffs since they launched 3G [that is more than TWO years]. History shows there's a quick "flurry" every 2 years where someone makes a move and the rest play catch-up....
Maybe define what you "think" another WIRELESS provider -can- offer in 6 months that will make you regret taking the 2GB contract?
THAT is what you should wonder about, when Vodacom dropped their rates from R40+ p/MB to R2 p/MB [end of 2004] , MTN was still sitting at R50 p/MB for 5 months. Everyone thought MTN is suddenly gonna "up the ante" and go R1 p/MB ...they never did. MTN simply matched Vodacom with R2 p/MB. Now the tables are turned, for some reason i can't imagine Vodacom going much further than "catching up" and "matching" [and they are behind on a couple of ends including prepaid bundles] ...and it'll take them at least 3-6 months to do so .
So what is a good "guess" of what one would expect in 6 months from Vodacom/virgin/Iburst? 3GB for R400 ? [doubt it]. Some complicated new system with some sort of "roll-over" where you pay less for GPRS than HSDPA making it impossible to compare , VERY LIKELY. [but in the end the price diff will be insignificant].
On the Neotel/Telkom end, anything can happen there, but they are in different league. Only reason why they are pooled in this are because Telkom is so expensive that wireless actually competes with them on price....Overseas this is not the case, people don't buy bulk wireless bandwidth , their ADSL is much too cheap.
