Okay, this is news to me. Is DFA working in partnership with Vumatel? I was never aware of this.

Can someone please confirm that Vumatel work jointly with DFA? Sounds like DFA lay the main fibre for backhaul, and then Vumatel do the remaining fibre for the residential areas.

I am not quite sure if they are partnering with Vumatel or Openserve in his regard.

Usually there will be some activity at the Telkom Exchange which serves your area, as they have to add some infrastructure at the exchange to power the MSAM/ISAM and some accommodating tech which needs to be deployed before the MSAM/ISAM will be activated - this is the long part of the wait as this MSAM/ISAM is owned and serviced by Openserve/Telkom.

I don't know which exchange services Boston, but I do know that the Bellville post office is nearest to the Durban Road Telkom It dept and a exchange is right next door to it, may you should have a chat with those guys.

So Vumatel will have to deal with Telkom, is what I'm getting from your reply.

In essence yes, as Telkom needs install the Multiplexer which will also provide the fibre signal and convert the signal from digital to light. From So from the Multiplexer back(Infrastructure), the obligation falls to Telkom to ensure that SLA's are maintained and service is delivered in stable, reliable manner.

You cannot really escape Telkom, you just get further Abstracted from them.

Vumatel is building their own network, definitely not reliant on Telkom.

Which site shows the % of interests in a specific area?

Sites I've been registering on, only says.. Fibre not available in my area.

Not sure if we are 10 or 1000 registers away from getting fibre or being in the planned list to get Fibre.

Do you have a link I can check out.

Have you been to the Vumatel.co.za/coverage page and entered your own address?

Just made an account, thought I would let you all know ( if you don't yet). Trenching is currently happening in the area, so that's progress. If anyone has heard of others accounts. How long is the time frame from trenching to line in your house and active?

Thanks in advance

Hi

If you live in Bellville Boston & Vredelust please register your interest in Vumatel to install fibre in our neighbourhood. We are currently sitting at 49% of target and need a further 382 sign-ups. Interest can be noted here: https://vumatel.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I have already put down my name down with Vumatel to say I am intrested.

We in Boston and Vredelust must make a co-ordinated plan and quick effort for who will go down their own street and alongside streets to convince those with PC's to write down and sign their interest.

I live in 1st Ave Boston and I will approach the very many businesses in 1st Avenue and most of the Washington Street as I can as well the fewer home owners. If no one is at home I will leave a printed case promotion for the blessings of fibre.

A friend of mine with his neighbours in their street in Monte Vista with great energy went to every house to sign up people that were willing to have fibre installed. They got the numbers and within a month Vumatel was digging trenches on their pavements.

Could each person wanting to do this please send to this site what streets who will be canvassing -on this thread.

(Today I found my Telkom modem which I use for my digital projector, its speedns have also deteriated to .94 Mbps)

Thank you all,

McDui the borrrder colly.
