I'm in cape town, bellville looking for wireless internet.
What is the best wireless provider to use here?

I've heard of Sentech & iBurst. Are there some smaller resellers that's worth using? (In bellville)

Any suggestions?
Opinions of current wireless users experience in the Bellville area will also be appreciated.

btw their number is easy to remember.
..only figured it out after i stopped using em.

086 1 365 24 7
1 = year
365 = days
24 hours
and 7 days a week

Typical of me to forget their number always an only remember it afterwards.

Oh btw. their products were quite decent for the prices.

Why did you stop using them? What are you using now?

What package are you on at WO? (http://wo.co.za/packages/wopackages.pdf)

And what speed and reliability do you get?

I'm on the @Work Package.

I get 24kB/s for browsing and 16kB/s for downloading. Speed is constant. I don't have any downtime except for the times that there were power failures but that's not their fault.

Service is excellent and they have a forum where you can interact with the other members and technicians of WO.

Give Eccsystems a call too if you want. They cover the Bellville area too. Office :913 6197 or e-mail them at info@eccsystems.co.za for more info.

ecc's got a dc++ thing going.
WO got a local ftp thing also

both good ideas.

Rather download stuff from there than having to bother with p2p.

The reason piesang that i stopped using WO is that I moved behind a big building an nowhere could ECC or WO get signal to me.
So........I got adsl. 2 adsl lines in fact :)

With the @work package @ R699p/m, is'nt ADSL also getting to be an option for you. I think you can get ADSL for about R600p/m. Or is is purely for the unlimited connection?

ADSL
Phone line - R92
Line Rental - R270 (192Kbps)
Package - R220 (IS WebAfrica 3Gb)
Total - R582
IS ADSL connection is 3GB + 27GB local bandwith.

You also mentioned somewhere in a forum that if you only get 8Kb/s download speed, you are effectively limited to about 20gb per month anyway.

What does ECC systems offer? Their site is like one page with only contact details. I've heard their quite cheap (64kbs for R200/250p/m).

Edit:
What is the dc++? is it a peer-to-peer thingy? i see their blocking peer-to-peer.

The following packages are available:

64k + 2 email addresses = R200pm
128k + 5 email addresses = R400pm
256k +10 email addresses = R800pm
512K + 20 email addresses = R1500pm

dc++ is basically a chat program that has sharing capabilities and it doesn't open so many connections at a time that a typical P2P programs does.. I'm not going go into details about this though.

If I can recall they have +-200 users so far and they are planning to put up more high sites and planning to roll out other services too. They are now looking at getting a decent website up and running. I think they wanted to get their foot in the door first and will now start advertising more. (IMHO)

Hope this info helps.

Thanks for the reply Hunted.
I notice they charge a extra R100 for the dc++.
"For just R100 extra per month you get access to our internal info exchange community."

Anyways, i've decided to go with WO. 128kb connection, they seem to be more stable than ECC, and you get access to the ftp 4 free !

My site inspection will probibly be today :) !

WO guys was just at my place to do a site inspection. I have a big-ass tree blocking the kanonkop tower, and no line of sight to the hill near sumerset. Damm !! :(

Ok, back to the drawingboard....

Anyone heard of uuinet or someone on the tygerberg koppie? I can see the towers there.

Uninet - 64Kb R399 + (Activation R1250 + Installation R1200)
Month 1 = R2849
Ecc systems - 64Kb R200 + (Installation R500 + Equipment deposit R1500)
Month 1 = R2200
both unsuitable for gaming. (i'm looking into playing Battlefield 2 online)

So desided to do with Telscum ADSL. (+- R700pm)

Yeah, only WO are good enough for gaming apparently. But did you check out that new Xclusiv wireless as well? R500 for 1mb "uncapped" around 7GB/fair usage kind of thing.

There are also others around Bellive.. julles ***en bederf. I can ONLY get Iburst, not even sentech or UUNET where I am.
