NEBody heard of 24-7Online?

previously you had to sign a 1 yr minimum contract but now they offer month2month ... i am wanting to signup but looking for some more info / reviews.

btw ... at home i have a netgear wireless card with no access point and i am already picking up their signal 22-40% strength ... i live out in kuils river.
hardware costs R2K+
R299 for a 64K link

i suspect most of these wisps are merely resellers of a bigger wisp ... could it be wo is daddy and ecc, uninet, etc are children ...?

Who's your daddy?:D

ECC Systems

I'm totally not impressed with these guys... Just be careful when you pay a deposit for equipment... you might not get all your money back... Also heard about a couple of bad things about Etsebeth Computer Consultants a.k.a. ECC Systems - specially their uptime / network stability. Rather go with a more established company like WO or something.

And stay away from uitsiglan, crappy service and clogged network.

Uninet - 64Kb R399 + (Activation R1250 + Installation R1200)
Month 1 = R2849
Ecc systems - 64Kb R200 + (Installation R500 + Equipment deposit R1500)
Month 1 = R2200
both unsuitable for gaming. (i'm looking into playing Battlefield 2 online)

So desided to do with Telscum ADSL. (+- R700pm)

ECC is a very good option for gaming. I play COD2 and BF2142 and pings are very good. They route the gaming server IPs through a specific router, which apparently connects to a ISP that offers the bandwidth on Fibre and that line only get used for gaming traffic.

I must warn you tho if you are going to connect to the Bottelary towers I would be careful. That area has way to many ISPs planted there and the weather lately caused lots of problems on that site. I can't answer on the Tygerberg tower though.

If things work well then the pings are very competitive with ADSL users.

Give them a try if you want.

***EDIT***

Soz didn't read you other comments., so ignore this comment. Glad you managed to to get you ADSL installed.

Anyone heard of uuinet

stay away from Uninet, they used to be ok 2 years ago, but they're totally oversubscribed now and they don't seem to want to do anything about it.

on my 256k "broadband" connection , i'm lucky to get 3k/s during the day. and also, the way their shaping is setup, if you're downloading anything, web browsing times out. its like they give you ONE connection at a time.. totally crap.

Tygerberg Highsites?

Hi Guys,

I live in a ditch! Line of site is almost non-existent...

The only thing I can see is Tygerberg koppie, I can also see a lot of towers there.

Can someone PLEASE tell me which wisps have towers on tygerberg?

Wanted to go with Snowball, good prices and service, but no line of sight. :(

Thanx :D

Before I left CT I was using WO and for gaming I was more than happy.

I lived on the other side of Durbanville near to Cape Gate and the pings were great for playing overseas games (I used to get 240 - 500ms pings on EQ).

And that was on a 64k connection back then.

So Kudos to them!

Now a days its actually more expensive to get a wisp than adsl, so just get yourself adsl. No setup fee of R2500 and also cheap for higher speeds.

I'm in cape town, bellville looking for wireless internet.
What is the best wireless provider to use here?

I've heard of Sentech & iBurst. Are there some smaller resellers that's worth using? (In bellville)

Any suggestions?
Opinions of current wireless users experience in the Bellville area will also be appreciated.

Try 24-7 Online www.24-7online.co.za or henk@24-7online.co.za. I have friends in Durbanville that are using them and they are very happy with their uptime and speeds and support.

I've had some pretty bad experiences with ECC Systems and wouldnt recommend them to anyone... The owner simply tells you to wait till he removes your equipment because his priority is his excisting clients. Also had hectic admin problems with them - they would simply take "money you owe to them" from your deposit..thats when/if you get your deposit back! Im sorry but I am not impressed.. rather go with another WISP or get adsl...

Nice advertisement but rather read the rules of the forum first. And get someone to fix your website as its broken in FF!

24-7online revisit. although their service was satisfactory their communication (keeping customer informed) was pathetic to say the least. changed my connection speed as they will'd. everytime i called they asked for my contact number ... i believe i was with them for over 2 years. connection for the most part was stable. they moved to a per gig costing model which was more expensive than adsl with a slower connection speed. i have moved for good

Two of the worst Wireless ISP's I came accross in my life!

Give Eccsystems a call too if you want. They cover the Bellville area too. Office :913 6197 or e-mail them at info@eccsystems.co.za for more info.

Constant issues, puts the blame to anyone and anyting else but them selves. Plus they supply you with ADSL broadband with and much promises which I and friends never got.

Second worst ISP is Wireless E Solutions also know as WE Solutions and E Solutions. Friendly warning, they have a Tygerberg Highsite and one in Gordonsbay and I wasted my money there as well. They're SSID are starting with WES-***. These people bullcraps you into buying "uncapped" wireless connections, but then runs it over ADSL.

Think to yourself, you contend with everyone in your block of houses or businesses on ADSL, these wireless ISP people contend all their wireless clients with those in their block of houses or businesses on ADSL!

You know, I bet they aren't even ICASA or WAPA members! :D
