Hey Ya'll, I've been reading up as much as I can on the subject.

I know 17" have the same resolution, but I prefer text to be a bit larger, so the 19" would be easier on my eyes.
I will be playing games/movies etc. but also Dreamweaver/Flash/Fireworks..

I know the contrasts should be high 500:1 or more is good !?
Fast Response rate, ..+/- 8ms
And brightness should be around 250/300 cd/m2 + is good !?
DVI !

Have my eye on the 19” BenQ FP91G+ R2,299

"A" Grade Panel
8ms Response Time
Contrast: 550:1
Brightness: 250cd/m2
Dual Input: D-sub & DVI (VGA/DVI Cables Included)
Dot pitch: 0.294
Display colors: 16.2 million with dithering
i Key Auto Adjustment

or

The BenQ FP91GX 19" R2,399

Resolution: Native SXGA (1280x1024)
Viewing Angle 140/130
Contrast: 550:1
Brightness: 270 cd/m2
Gray-to-Gray response time: 4ms
Display colours: 16.2million
DVI/D-sub inputs
i Key Auto Adjustment

Can anyone suggest any another brand or model that would be as good but even a little cheaper?
Oh, ye I am a CT dweller..

ya, you see, those acer's only had D-sub/analogue inputs, which is apparently a fairly big disadvantage clarity-etc.-wise compared to DVI. The CMV, again D-Sub.

Looks, interesting:
PACKARD BELL MAESTRO 190W
19" Wide display
16/10 aspect ratio
1440 x 900 maximum resolution
300 Nits brightness
Contrast 500:1
8ms response time
DVI & 2 x analogue inputs
Integrated speakers
1 Year warranty
R 2,799.95

but the ACER AL1916W does have the edge price-wise, but apparently also has a backlight-leaking problem that annoys on darker games and movies, and the colours are a bit anemic.

Not in the least MrE. With the new monitor everything is damned crispy and oh so purty. Monitor easily goes from almost incandescent white to the dark required for them thar scary games.

Plus, it just looks swell on my desk. It's just waiting for two more of its kind to come up and join it.

Antithesis, ..on the IC website, the wide screen, and your monitor are the same price, ..did you have the choice, and if yu didn't, would you choose the widescreen now, if you did have the chance? :)

I did have the chance but widescreen always bugs me because of the low height. The width is awesome but it just looks wrong somehow.

:D

You know you want to buy the Ferrari one :p

True true, that factor has been on my mind! :)
I think I will just stick with a normal 19" ...

Will do Hannibal! ;)

Not 100% sure but I think Hanns-G use the CMV pannel. I have seen them at Corex before quality seems fine, not too wild on its stand though.

I got the Acer 1916W and it is the bomb. Had no issues with it and am loving it, and this is from a gamer.

See one of the things I absolutely love about the packard bell is they seem to have cottoned onto the fact that I DON'T WANT SPEAKERS on my monitor. I have a big 5.1 system... what the hell do I want with a couple of 2.5w speakers?

The benQ actually looks very nice. Always been kinda suspicious of them as a brand for some reason. Don't think it's at all logical but there it is.

true, I would love to go for the Hanns-G, but that design is troubling me, I think I may just always wish that I would've gotten something a bit prettier.
And ya, 2x1W, or even 2x2.5W speakers are a bit ridiculous..

Anyone know know anything bout these?

Proline LM928 19" LCD, SXGA, 1280x1024@75Hz, 8ms, DVI, Super Slim Bezel
R1,802

Could be a good compromise between price and looks etc..

Edit: Update ..ok scratch that, it seems it has a 25ms response!
